Kody is NOT motivated by faith or religion.

I've seen enough of him now to offer the opinion that ultimately Kody chose polygamy for the attention it brings him. This is a man who loves the spotlight, loves being "different". The brand of religion he spouts is a bastardised mish-mash of at least three faiths and I often get the feeling that he's makin' sh!t up on the fly. From the earliest episodes where he would get up and dance out of nowhere and those old clips of him singing -- all of it screams attention whore. He loves the IDEA of being a "polyg" and he loves talking about it because he loves being different. As a sidenote: is it just me or does Robin look harder and meaner every year?

I think Kody's intentions were of a religious nature when he married Meri, but I agree things got twisted as time went on and especially since the show. Kody does like attention, no doubt about that. Robyn has facial features that will not soften with age.

She has one of the most severe frowns I've seen -- her upside down smile and jaw look like they're set in granite. Scary. There's a great example in the photos on this page -- she's on the couch with Boasty, er...I mean Kody.

reply

I agree. I thought her jaw looks boxy and she looks sad all the time. ALl the ladies too. They all frown and look sad.

Kody just picks and chooses what he enjoys about other religions and just incorporates them into his own made up home religion he wants them all to follow. I was flabbergasted to find out he gave Logan a bar mitzvah. In terms of Sobbin, I am watching season 2 now and it is a stark difference in her look. She was 31 then but looked a little older but now? She looks in her 40's. She's all wrinkly with crows feet and lines all over her face. They all look old and haggard to me. Robbins hair hasn't changed a bit since season 2. Is she not allowed to part her hair in the middle or a different side? She looks a lot older too the way she curls her hair. The few times she straightened her hair it made her look a little younger.

reply

Sobbin is not aging well, that's for sure. Could that be considered a "polygamy NON perk," since they are so quick to point out any perceived "polygamy perk?" ;)

reply

She's not. It also doesn't help that she has such a square jaw and chin. I have a 65 inch hd tv and when I walk up on my tv to get a close look at them, it's scary lol. You can see that Meri draws her brows on pencil thin. Why? I don't know because it isn't flattering

reply

LOL, I don't think most people would look good on a 65 inch hdtv.

reply

Meri has an odd coloring to me. I barely notice the brows. I don't know if it Quick tan, over use of carrot juice or she has jaundice.

reply

Her skin is the same color as a grocery store deli counter roasted chicken and her nose seems more appropriate for a small mammal. I know I must sound like a totally negative dink but I have a hard time seeing beauty in any of these women. And I will NEVER be able to erase the image in my mind of all those atrocious DARK BROWN get-ups they all wore for Robin's(?) wedding. I thought Helen Keller was long dead but apparently she's dressing bridal parties in Utah. I just cannot fathom ANYONE thinking those dark brown recycled tablecloths were perfect for a wedding. My God that was hideous. And the shoes?!? Don't even get me started....

reply

What does not aging well have to do with Polygamy?

reply

Well, apparently in this case, it fits. Marriage to Kody makes one old before one's time.

I was sort of making a joke, or an analogy, or something. I guess it didn't come off well? Sorry...

reply

Christine doesn't look old. Now if you said being a polygamist makes you fat, that would have been true and funny.

reply

I agree to disagree, but that's OK.

reply

Maybe stress, or lack of sex?! I doubt any of the wives except perhaps Robyn are enjoying their marriage bed with any frequency.
Reminds me of Big Love when Bill couldn't perform enough to satisfy all his wives and began taking (and abusing) Viagra. Kody is reaching the age when some men find they need a little help from the little blue pill....

reply

I remember that; I think Bill's vision went wacko, and Margene took him to the hospital. Scary stuff.

I would bet Robyn is the only one getting any these days, but you never know...

I actually think that Kody was initially motivated for religious reasons. He came back from an LDS mission to find that his father and mother had converted to a fundamentalist Mormon religion while he was gone.

He was a confused 21 year old, albeit still a kid, that came home to something totally different than what he was taught when he left on his LDS mission when he was 19. His father was now a polygamist and had joined a Mormon fundamentalist church.

Don't get me wrong, I think Kody is a narcissist and he has taken his views of religion to a whole new level. He knows very little about the LDS faith he was raised with, as well as the AUB faith, which he has adopted.

He has created his own religion, as well as his own reality.

reply

Kody does seem to have a lot of respect for young men that have completed a mission -as in Tony. I agree that Kody was motivated by religion as a younger man, but it has turned into a completely different animal now.
