So much happier...

I'm about 30 minutes into the wedded bliss episode and I'm struck by how much happier they all were a few years ago. There's a lot of laughter and smiling in the couch sessions and the show. Were they hiding the bad stuff, or have their lives got that much worse? Or is the drama orchestrated for ratings?
I wonder what their lives would have been like had they not made the decision to go public.

I agree they were happier when the show started. I was trying to figure out exactly how to characterize the change in Meri once and I couldn't. But you're right - they were happier. It's now a job for them to do this and my opinion is even if the situations are real, they're more produced than they used to be.

If they didn't have the show they'd still be living in the big house in Utah. The smart older kids like Logan and Mariah would be in state schools (not that there's anything wrong with that) and they'd still have 2 daughters married. They would still be strapped for cash, but the best part is that Robyn wouldn't be around.

I don't know about Robyn not being around........Cinles you yourself (or was it someone else?) speculated in another thread that Robyn was seeing Kody right before they started the show or was at least by the end of the first season.

I do believe there's a huge difference with the whole family between now and back when the show first came on. They all are different people now.

reply

They couldn't afford Robyn and just like now when people speculate about a 5th wife, where would she have lived? Robyn was brought in to spice up the show and sell it to TLC. Without the show, Kody needed another wife like... well another wife. 

What season is "wedded bliss", the episode you watched?

Last week I watched a few episodes from seasons one and two and I was blown away by how different they all were, most obvious was Meri. She was so cute and bubbly and full of life, so young looking and thin and healthy looking. She spent lot's of time with the kids and really seemed to be the glue that held the family together. She seemed so happy and fun back then.

She is a completely different person now, she doesn't even resemble the Meri we saw back then. I'm guessing it was around season 4 that she started to nose dive. It's too bad.

I was going to make the same thread! I couldn't believe how different everyone was in that special. Especially Meri and Christine. Meri is a shadow of her former self, it's pretty sad.

reply

Right now Meri could cast three shadows that would swallow up her former self.

LOOOOOL

Someone made a comment in another thread that it looked like Meri lost weight. Has anyone else thought that? 

reply

That was me. I thought she was looking thinner the past few episodes...

But in the sneak peek clip I just saw she looked huge, so scratch that, lol!

Ive been watching seasons 1-2 this week and they definitely seemed happier. I wonder if there were hidden resentments among the three women that Robyn, her three kids, and her debt were coming into an already established/cash strapped family. Also, in season 1 when Kody was asking the kids if they would like to add Robyn to the family they were all jumping for joy and excited. That seemed so phony to me considering NONE of the teenagers were happy to find out she was pregnant in season 2.

In hindsight, I don't think anyone was happy Robyn came into the family, but she brought money into the family as they wouldn't have the show without her. In my opinion, they would have never added her and 3 kids to the family without the income from the show.

I don't agree. I really think Robyn was already in the picture before the show started. I believe Robyn had already met Kody and Meri--or at least Meri--before the show started. There's no way TLC pulled it out of their ass to just add a complete stranger with 3 kids and a ton of debt to this family. They knew her before hand.

You've seen the timeline of the show. They filmed the scenes with the 3 wives a year or so before the scenes with Robyn. They may or may not have known Robyn before the whole thing started, but Kody wasn't going to marry her.

That's exactly what they did. I don't know if she brought 'a ton of debt' with her, but she brought 4 more mouths to feed who needed a place to live. How do you think Kody would have moved Robyn and her kids into their home? Do you think he had the money or it would have been OK with the other SW for Robyn to live in that nice house she lived in before they moved to Las Vegas?

reply

I'm not getting into a long drawn out debate about this. We'll just agree to disagree.

reply

I really would have liked to have seen a Sister Wives show with Robyn and her 3 kids somehow squashed in that Lehi house. 

reply

Sorry, but If you go back and watch the first season, you'll see that you're wrong.
