If Kody and his wives truly believe the way to eternal happiness and salvation in Heaven is through polygamy, wouldn't news of one of their children being gay, or even that the kids have chosen to not follow polygamy, be devastating to them?
They always have said that they hoped the kids would follow in polygamy but that it was ultimately their decision and that they'd support them no matter their decision. They also have said it wouldn't be a surprise if one of the kids come out as gay. But the look on their faces when Mariah said she was gay says different. I don't know if it was for show or what(most likely was) but, IMO, the look on Meri's and Kody's face was total disappointment.
She's probably thinking that now she won't get to look forward to a traditional wedding, like has just happened for Janelle and Christine, followed by the traditional production of grandchildren. News like that will take some getting used to.
It looked to me like Robyn and Christine maybe(?) were being supportive and Meri attacks them. Doesn't she say "How could you guys sit there supporting her and smiling?"
I'll have to watch the clip again but it sure looked to me like Robyn at least was very supportive, which is nice.
~Oh look... a room full of men that have NO idea how to satisfy a woman.~

The first time I saw that clip I thought Meri was saying that to Kody but I watched it again this morning and it looks like she's speaking to Robyn with Kody sitting there. Just the three of them.
I remember Robin saying once that if the kids don't choose this (plural marriage) that means that they (the parents) have failed. I don't think they are homophobes, but it seems likely that they would consider a gay child as a failure on their (the parents) part.
There's a People article out (of course) that says their religion is against homosexuality. The Browns have always spoken up and supported the LGBTQ community. Maybe not on the show, but on social media and I mean Kody, Janelle and of course Mariah. So if their religion is anti-gay, it's another part of their religion they've changed to suit themselves.
One of the reasons that the Browns have publicly supported LGBTQ issues, especially gay marriage, is that they were hoping to jump on the coattails of the gay marriage court decisions. If they can legalize gay marriage, surely they will legalize polygamist marriage.
It was, in part, because of Utah's Supreme Court appeal, that gay marriage is now legal throughout the nation. The Browns were very supportive because they want the same audience with the Supreme Court when it comes to their case.
To be a member of the AUB a person does not have to live a polygamist lifestyle; however, most do. They aren't going to kick anyone out just because a man chooses to only have one wife. However, they definitely do not accept homosexuality, and I'm not sure, but at one time that would be grounds for excommunication from the group.
I remember that now and I don't know the timeframe, but while I understand aligning with the LGBTQ community over the legal issue, why do they tweet about it so much? Also, why was it on their mind that one of their kids might be gay to the point they talked about it on the show? Until it was brought up now in relation to Mariah, I didn't know their church's stance on this issue. I guess it's good they follow the Church of Kody and not the one they supposedly base their faith on.
I figured that based on having so many kids, that they should have expected that at least one would be gay/lesbian. I'd say that having 16+ kids would have a greater chance of that happening than having 3 kids. Lol.
If the Brown's truly believe in their lifestyle for the reasons they claim, then it stands to reason they would be heartbroken that their kids would not go to their heaven.
Like a devout Christian that beleives one must profess their belief in Jesus Christ, but whose kid was an atheist.
