1/8/17 "A Shocking Revelation" Episode Discussion Thread

Here's the synopsis for tonight's episode:

Season 7 Episode 8: A Shocking Revelation

Meri's only daughter, Mariah, makes a stunning announcement; the whole family heads to a mountain resort where Meri struggles to connect with Mariah who remains angry about the catfishing.

Hold onto your hats folks because IT IS THREE HOURS again this week. I suspect the third hour will be like last week's and some kind of recap of things we've already seen.

Ok, after watching the family's reaction, I think the overwhelming reaction of Robyn was a lot of forced crap again so that she can seem so open minded when most of the time I find her to be so much more closed. I know, at this point most are probably saying, there goes mort hating on Robyn again, but she just seems so fake. I find Meri to not be taking it very well at all which is more realistic but somehow I know she will make it all about her.
This should be interesting as to how this pans out. Just sharing my opinion...

reply

I think I agree with you about Robyn. She's number 1 wife so she probably thinks she best not go against the kids.

I don't agree about Meri. She came out on twitter after last weeks episode in support of Mariah. It takes time to process this news and that doesn't mean that Meri doesn't support Mariah. Yes, her and Kody both were flabbergasted by this news but it's understandable because of how they were raised.

Just to clarify, even though Robyn is now the one legally married to Kody, she is still wife #4 and Meri is still wife #1; that will never change.

reply

Janelle and Robyn both had the same reaction, and yet Janelle isnt being called fake. I honestly dont get all the Robyn hate, Mariah said in her own words that Robyn was the one that helped her the most. If Robyn had been a straight up b@tch people would have hated on her for that, so no matter what she does someone is going to hate on her. Its funny how the family always has great things about her but people on this board always hate on her.

reply

The public opinion of Robyn and her standing in the family are the opposite. That's why she gets criticized when she does something good. However, in the family, she is held in high esteem and considered the wife who strikes a balance and is sort of the referee.

reply

I get that this board feels opposite of the family, I'm not a kid, so i understand how that works. I still dont understand the hate nor do I feel like the hate is justified. Honestly no matter what she does, I most people on this board will hate her. She could take a bullet for Meri and people would say "she only did it so she would look better, she just wanted the spotlight on her and want people to feel sorry for her."

reply

Well, I know some people like some members of this family and some people don't like members of this family. You are going to see all different opinions on this board. I respect your opinion because you make quite a few good points and although I really don't care much for Robyn, I think you are right that even I find fault for her every move even when she isn't doing anything wrong...

reply

It's not just this board. It's a public perception by many of Robyn. Some people's opinion won't ever change. I don't hate her, but she had a huge impact on the family.

reply

Ya I honestly don't see an issue with Robyn's reaction. Sometimes she annoys me with her constant Sobbin but she annoys me a LOT less than Meri and Jenelle.

reply

She does cry alot, but as someone that cries over everything, I understand it. I literally cry when I'm happy, mad, sad, at everything. When I got a promotion I literally cried, not that I wanted to, it just happened and honestly it sucks to cry over everything b/c you dont want it!! lol

reply

I'm an angry crier too and I hate it lol. Whenever I'm SUPER ticked off I start crying and it makes me look weak and sad but really I just wanna kill you LOL.

reply

I'm the same way and then you get more mad that you're crying!! lol

there's no issue with Robyn's reaction ......

reply

Some posts have been saying she's overcompensating and being 'fake nice'.

reply

I agree Kem. I was very happy with what Robin said tonight. It didn't seem fake. I don't get all the Robin hate either. People keep waiting for her to drop the act and..... what? Divorce Kody and take his money? Kick the other wives out? Take over the family and put the other kids in servitude? She seems pretty genuine to me. And I am surprised that she was able to calmly talk to Meri about how Mariah's future isn't lost (or at least Meri's vision of it). I wanted to tell Meri to suck it up and deal with it already. It seems that Robin's role in the family is that of mediator and emotional cushioner. She softens Kody's bluntness and acts as a go-between for him and the other wives.

reply

OMG Solomon is sucking his thumb.

reply

yes he was............

reply

Someone said Christine had cut out sugar and I wanted to check her out. I think she has because she looks smaller, but also her skin looks better and did everyone notice her camo pants and boots? 

reply

Lol yes!! I asked my bf if she's goin worm pickin after the show lol.

reply

She probably got those to honor camo guy Caleb.

reply

Was anyone else horrified at Tony trying to cook with a cookie sheet on top of the gas stovetop?!? My god, some people should just stay out of the kitchen. Granted I guess everyone liked it but he's kinda clueless lol.

reply

yes that was odd.........

reply

He's probably watched his mother cook a lot and helped her but hasn't really cooked on his own. That was pretty funny.

reply

I don't get a lot of people here harping on Meri and saying she made Mariah coming out all about her. She didn't do that. Far from it.

Mariah is still acting like a spoiled brat bitch toward her mother. The catfish thing happened over a year ago and I think Mariah acting like that is for the show.

The Catfish thing has been exploited enough. For those saying Meri hasn't taken responsibility for her actions, just what the hell else is she supposed to do at this point? She's apologized to the whole family numerous times. Kody needs and should take responsibility for HIS part in making Meri feel lonely and vulnerable.

reply

I think Mariah has authentic resentment toward Meri and it's hard not to equate that with the catfish story, but the way she is acting is too much. That's why I said there's something wrong with Kody because Meri's reaction seems normal to me, but he's acting weird, like OK, good girl, what's for dinner.

reply

People are forgetting that Kody and Meri both were brought up in polygamy and in a very religious surrounding. Yes, I, too, think Meri's reaction was normal and she didn't make it all about her. But she absolutely does support her daughter and there are many parents of gay people out there that don't........

reply

Kody wasn't brought up in a polygamist house, but it is an interesting point how they barely brought up that their church is against homosexuality. Mariah talked about it more than anyone and even she skirted the issue. However, we know they have created their own church and to their credit, they raised their kids to be independent. Plus Kody repeated last night he thought they might have a gay child. Maybe that's why he's so calm. I wonder how they would have reacted if it was Mykelti who told them she was gay?

Basically it was a good episode, but I do have a few observations about things that people have commented on in this thread:

-Mariah telling Logan first. That to me is not surprising, people typically test coming out on a trusted sibling before they actually tell anyone else in the family. Our son came out in high school, but told his older sister first. But it wasn't like his mother and I hadn't figured out that his best friend was more than just a friend by the time he told us.

-I will take back what I said about Aspyn and Mariah being estranged. I still think it is odd they don't follow each other on Twitter, but that may be because Aspyn's Twitter seems to be devoted to sorority business.

-Meri and processing. Meri loves to process things, but she never comes to a resolution, she just gets stuck in the minutia of processing. That is why people like Meri never benefit from therapy, all they want to do is talk about the problem but not move to a resolution.

-Meri if you want to talk to your child and to get back into her life don't treat her like a dangerous tiger with whom you just entered the cage. I swear if TV's could emit smells you could have smelled the fear that Meri emits when she talks to her child.

-Mariah is one tough cookie and I am proud of her but she is definitely carrying this issue with her mother too far.

-Meri if you want to know how gay people can have kids there are a lot of resources out there that will help you. I have two beautiful grandkids, that carry the genetic material from my son and his partner. With lesbians, it is just a sperm donor and a turkey baster away from conception.

-I actually didn't have a problem with Meri's questions or comments, from our involvement in PFLAG they are comments I have heard before. But they are comments that should be directed to other parents in your situation, or your sister wives (or husband), not to the person who is coming out and still trying to process things (because of this show I am really starting to hate the word process). Have you ever thought that your daughter doesn't want children?

I am sure that I will have other comments as I think about it, but these are just from the top of my head after speed watching the episode this morning.

I thought about the conversations about Aspyn and Mariah when I saw that. Does Aspyn follow all her other siblings on Twitter?

Meri acts like the most unworldly person. She never heard the word 'catfish' before and she brings up the most ignorant issues with Mariah, like having children. I hope that was for the show because I can't believe she's that naive, ill-informed or out of it. Now more than ever I think she should go back to school - maybe not so much to learn skills but to be exposed to what's going on in the world.

I agree with everything you said DD and I was waiting on you to come on to comment!
