Janelle and Christine...

sure seem a lot happier now that Robyn is the legal wife as opposed to Meri. In fact the whole family seems happier (with the exception of Meri of course), they don't have that dark cloud hanging over them like they did in previous seasons.

I know they say that the legal wife thing is just a formality and has no impact on the family- but I think it must, especially when you have someone as emotionally unstable as Meri holding the title.

How do you connect their happiness with that situation? What is the nexus?

Just my theory.

But I noticed a dramatic difference in the dynamic of the family this season compared to past ones. Robyn is taking a much more "matriarchal" role in the family, she seems to have slid into Meri's previous role.

With the Browns you get more from what's NOT said during interviews then what's said- the long awkward pauses speak volumes. When the interviewer asked if everyone had regained their trust in Meri, it was crickets and awkward stares until Christine blurted out some jibberish about the kids (totally skirting the question). It's obvious that Meri has issues with all of the adults, I'm sure it's a bit of a relief for them that she's not legal wife anymore. Now she's basically just the crazy neighbor, haha!

'The crazy neighbour' LOLOLOL THAT'S GOLD bahahahaha.

Even though I've vacillated, I don't think the divorce and marriage had any impact on the family. However, Meri had an impact on the family. She's been sliding downhill for a long time. I also think this 'trust' and 'safety' crap is therapy-speak they use for the show. But yeah, I would call her the crazy neighbor. 

I think at this point everyone is just placating her, they have limited interactions with her, and when they do have to be around her it's just saying sh*t she wants to hear. Kind of how you would with a crazy neighbor who you don't want trouble with but they keep bugging you over the fence.

I'm not a big Robyn fan, but she does seem to have a good relationship with all the wives, and she seems to act like a traditional "first wife". She wants all their marriages to be good and strong, whereas the others seemed to care more about their own relationship with Kody.

I agree Julie!

I think the real issues with Meri and the family came to the surface after Mariah went off to college. Meri is now an empty nester and she has no one to go through that with. All other issues, especially between her and Kody, which can be pushed away while raising children, can no longer be ignored. Then she loses her "status" as the legal wife. Then comes the catfish incident and she has lost all trust from the other adults. I don't know how she and they recover from this. It will take a lot of work, and then only if they really want it. I'm not sure that she and Kody do want it.
