Real Friends
Hey... just read a couple of these first threads and wanted to voice my opinion about the ending.
Honestly, I'm not sure if people are just making stuff up to say something bad about the movie but I guess the ending is an easy one to pick on. It strikes a cord, it's blatant, and it's real. But so are REAL friends.
What I loved about this movie was that it was so close to real life. Life is meant to be uncomfortable, awkward, passionate, funny, enigmatic, and this movie was full of all that and more. This movie shares the journey of friends through life decision, life changes, relationships, and having kids. Mainly it's about a modern couple and how they go against the grain of society's traditional norms and it's done in a very believable way. The view of different relationships was all too common to me and the dialogue between friends was genuine. I felt like I know these characters in real life. This is how me and my friends behave and talk to each other at home. We curse and we are brutal. We have the most hilarious time and everything is 'OK' with your friends. You can fight and bicker all day but in the end you can't help but forgive someone you know so well.
As for the ending line, it makes sense. It demonstrates their passion for each other. They were already best friends with a kid but unlike the stories of their other friends (whose relationship was based more on lust), they have a solid foundation of trust, love, and respect to work through the tough situations. It was REAL, to the point, and we know what happens after, so I thought it was perfect - and I appreciated that. It was a real depiction of love and it's many layers.
