When Julie first breaks down to Jason
That broke my heart because you could tell she wanted more and she wanted to be with him. This was a great scene with great acting. I hope to use this in my scene class one day!

shareThat's a great idea. May I also add - I think the scene when Julie tries to play the death game with Kurt while Jason and Mary Jane are next door would be another interesting choice for your scene class. It's a game that Julie likes to play with Jason but Kurt doesn't understand why it's funny.
shareI was surprised to find this comedy so smart and intense and Jennifer was truly great in those parts. The birthday dinner scene was very emotional and it really showed her range and versatility as an actress. The character, Julie, was going through a lot as a mother, a best friend, and being in love in a difficult situation… It was great to see Jennifer bring suspense and romance to something so complex. I hope to see more interesting roles from her.
shareI loved this moment. Jennifer's performance was outstanding! She really knows how to give a subtle performance when there's so much going on internally. That moment was an honest realization that she was falling in love and wanting more for her family. The character Julie is written with a lot of internal dialogue. She is guarded, reserved, and loving. She self sacrifices her feelings to remain a good mother and best friend. I thought Julie was a real representation of the female perspective, something hard to find in most films. Most film characters also lack in continuity whereas with Julie, you see her develop. As her character progresses and arrives at the dinner scene, she is emotive, passionate, and wishful. It was so believable, I understood exactly what she was going through and was heartbroken. It was a beautiful and honest portrayal by Jennifer. I was touched by the performances but most of all, proud to see one of OUR (women) stories presented this way.
shareShe handled everything as best a mother and best friend could. Her vulnerability allowed her to open her eyes to the honesty of their relationship and put her hopes out there. It takes a lot of guts to face your fears. Jennifer's performance was perfectly fitting. She was genuine as a best friend and mother who was in love but guarded. It was also great to see Adam Scott in a lead role and perform something more serious than what I'm used to seeing him in. The two of them complimented each other well in those emotional scenes.
shareTalk about a heart wrenching moment! Jennifer was brilliant! She nearly slowed time down for me while watching it. It was full of patience, heart, and angst. Jennifer gives great intensity through her expressive eyes. This was one of my favorite scenes of the movie. It was so powerful. I loved the moments leading up to the films climactic moment too. They were very sweet and internal but never predictable.
shareYou are so right about that! As a female, this story hits your core. With themes of trust, love, and life changes, I appreciate a film that explores the real choices of women, today. Julie's story is relatable. It's not always pleasant, to convey reality, but I enjoy that because it's more believable. By the time Julie breaks down and confesses to Jason, I was balling (and probably cursing at Jason, lol)! Jennifer took me on a beautiful journey with her character. The emotions are natural in a story that tests morals, tradition, and love. Jennifer has a way of pulling you into the scene through her subtlety. She is captivating.
shareWow! Just presented Julie's scene in class and the response was really great! I got great feedback and people really enjoyed the character and the scene. It looks like Jennifer Westfeldt has a lot of fans in theater and acting and I'm not surprised!
The scene was actually very difficult to perform but I felt really connected to the character and the story as well the viewers in my class who thought it was so neat and refreshing to hear a contemporary piece like Friends With Kids. I think that this film is filled with lots of good material that is fun and complex and useful in portraying interesting and well rounded characters and modern day fun but serious situations. I really enjoy Jennifer Westfeldt's work. Her acting and her achievements is something I look up to and I'm glad that other actors are admiring her role as a female in the industry.
Oh my goodness, talk about heartbreaking. She was trying to stay so strong! It was a very intense moment, really breaks the heart.
