Moot competition?

It's implied that Clive gave Niamh a leg up in the competition. The PBS recap says that he gave her an advance look at the brief and she exclaims 'bender' when she realizes what it is (which brief). But did we see Clive give her the brief in advance? If so I missed it. I do know that PBS cuts the episodes, so that may have been edited out. I did watch the complete 3 and 4 episodes (the middle 2-hour segment of the three 2-hour segments on PBS).

I can't recall the specific issue Clive alerted her to, but it directly related to issue raised at the end of Ms Costello's pupil's summation arguments and he was stumped. She directly raised that issue in her argument.

By the way, the British use of the term "briefs" is completely different from how it is used in the States. I may be wrong but I think they use that term for a "case." The advocate gets the ribbon wrapped folder which is the case file that was submitted by the solictors to the chamber for trial. Here a brief is a summation of the facts and issues and arguable resolutions of those issues involved in a case.

So the 4th episode was it? Ms Costello's becomes a QC and that's it?

I have read that there's a Season 2 as well, and I do hope we get it here in the U.S. Too many hanging threads! Which pupil gets chosen? Does Clive's having helped Niamh ever get revealed? And Billy's haven taken 300 pounds from the coffer? Is there an honest explanation, or is he up to No Good?

Calisson, there are two more seasons of 6-hours each (we get the seasons in three parts made up of two-episodes; but cut-down to 1:45 or so).

I used the term correctly. I meant the whole case in the form of the documents. It's also used to indicate the person carrying the brief and representing someone.

I went back and looked and Clive suggested to the senior barrister that they use the 'same case as last time' for the moot, so he knew what it would be. Then later he told Niamh to do some research for him. She initially objected because it was for a case 3 weeks later; but he insisted that it would 'help her.' The case was about someone who had a suspended sentence (bender) and committed another, unrelated offense. So she knew how to handle the brief used in the moot competition.
