Can anybody say if there is going to be a third season to this excellent series ?

No official announcement yet, but I think the show will continue, as the final episode of Series 2 left a few storylines open and introduced a new one. Also, a new character is introduced to the main cast (the new female QC joining Shoe Lane), so, it also indicates some development. In comparison, the final episode of Series 1 didn't leave anything open and looked like it was the end of the show. I guess at the stage of finishing Series 1, the makers weren't sure whether it will continue, but after Series 2, it looks like it will.

Yes, there is a 3rd series. They are filming now.

Yes, sadly for the OP, it's no longer the "excellent series" they were hoping would return.

What a shower of an opening episode. If the rest are like this, it's going to be a very sad end to what used to be a great series on many different levels.
