Miss Costello....what's up with you? SPOILERS s3 e5-6

Is something up with Miss Costello overall?

Or are these last three episodes simply stories they want to tell. I'm referring to the terror suspect last week, and this two-parter about her childhood friend.

In episode 5, she seems for the second time in a row to be taken by manipulative clients whom she utterly believes are innocent, even though they do not appear to be.

Just random stories? Or are the writers finishing the series this year by telling us she's losing some of her sharp edge?

It turns out she wasn't losing her edge though really, she was right her friend was set up.

Don't be late, don't hesitate, this dream can pass just as fast as lightning.

But she did lose her edge: as Mickey reminded her, before telling her to "run, run for your life", she failed to notice something so basic as the blood being on the wrong side of the jacket for a left-handed person. In episode 4, she got a a suspected terrorist acquitted. At the close of the show, it was strongly implied he was guilty and she'd been hoodwinked.
