People calling it boring

This is what I always found interesting. People call various movies boring, even new Mad Max was called boring and claim it sucks because of that but 2001: A Space Odyssey always gets a lot of praise, nobody complains how boring it is, how nothing much happens etc.

Why is that? Are people afraid to say that because it's so well known?

Don't get me wrong, I love 2001, but I can say that it's a slow movie (but I don't think that's a bad thing), it's much slower than a lot of movies that are called "boring".

Theres a difference between "slow" and "boring". Anyone who called Fury Road boring quite clearly has no dopamine receptors. I can only imagine that they also think roller coasters are boring. 2001 was slow paced but it wasnt BORING in the least. It was tense and intriguing and fascinating and felt so very important. THIS movie was the epitome of boring. Nothing happens (purposefully so) and theres no sensation of building tension. It was just sort of a snap shot of a few days in the life of these passive reclusive creatures who live their lives at a glacial pace deriving mute pleasure from objects and laying around silently contemplating. Thats BORING in a movie. And it results in a plodding pointless film with no sensation of transition or development or discovery. It came off as just empty intellectual masturbation and an artie excuse for the director to dwell on stuff he thought was cool and how cool he was for thinking they are cool.

I love 2001,barry lyndon, even von tiers movie
But I don't know, I can stand this movie, or paul thomas anderson movies
just not my cup of tea

I think the majority of 2001 is spellbinding, the opposite of boring. But I do find the last act to be atrociously dull.

This movie OTOH bogs down more in the middle (after Eve arrives but before her sister does) but starts and finishes strong.
