Why don't you call the police?

I won't say anything about not calling the police when you father puts a woman in your basement and torture her cause' he was dominating the family blalbla so everyone was scared as *beep* blabla

BUT however, at the end when everything get messy, why didn't she call the police instead of liberating the woman? She could have saved her mother afterall.

I think she thought The Woman would be able to save her teacher. Also I don't think she would have minded if her incestuous, rapist father was hurt in the process. I don't know if she thought that far ahead when it came to her mother. Her mother was still at the table nursing her concussion and cracked ribs when she got the shackle keys. Then her mother decided to be a hero (FAIL!) and follow her daughter and yell "What have you done?!" At which point I'm like "No, bitch. What have you done." She was a sick bitch too.

Yup, the wife had her moment to redeem herself when she was holding that block of wood while behind her husband's back. She didn't even take the neutral route of not alerting her husband that the board was beginning to crack, nope, she practically pointed it out to ensure the Woman was there to stay.

In the end, she got what was coming to her.

According to the novel, Peggy DID call the police. But she knew they wouldn't get there in time to help, so she decided to free the woman. I guess the movie should have covered that as well.

I don't think that she really cared what happened to her mother. Her mother did allow her to be sexually abused continually, mind you.

How dare you speak to the prince of evil that way, you SLUT?

reply

Please, she was clearly horrified at what happened to her mum. But I don't think it occurred to her, she was panicking.

He was also a prominent lawyer and seemed to be well-connected and well-liked. Certainly he was good at role-playing the idyllic good old boy dad when he needed to, and people bought it. His family may have felt that calling authorities would have resulted in him *beep* and backslapping his way out of it and then taking it out on them later.

What a lovely way to burn...
