The Spectacular Now / The Fault in Our Stars

Seriously!? It baffles me that I haven't seen anyone mention the obvious similarities between the movies yet. Shailene Woodley is in both of the movies and her characters are almost identical (nice girl, a little missunderstood, is not a "cool girl", smart, loves her books, looks very plain). In both of the movies she meets a guy (cool, has a sharp tongue, charming, "bad boy", sweeps her off of her feet, cares about her interest for books etc). I had to freaking IMDB-search both movies just to assure that it's not the same male actor in them.

I'm not a fan of romantic movies and this just makes me hate them even more.

The Spectacular Now is a much better and more realistic film than The Fault in Our Stars, at least in my opinion. I share your opinion about not caring for romantic movies but calling the Spectacular Now a romance movie is kind of like calling Perks of Being a Wallflower a romance movie, which it isn't.

Aimee and Hazel have completely different personalities. Aimee is quiet, naive, innocent, meek, and learns to come out of her shell during her relationship with Sutter. Hazel is sharp witted, sarcastic, a little angry and extremely contemplative. If you've read either book (or really watched either movie and looked past the looks), it is clear they are drastically opposite.

And I don't know how Augustus Waters can be considered a "bad boy". He was kind of a huge, pretentious goofball.

I kept getting the two mixed up - when people would recommend that I watch The Spectacular Now, I was thinking they meant The Fault in Our Stars and I wondered "Seriously?! that movie is good???"
