Liked the Concept, Unfortunate Execution...
Watched this movie last night. Promising start, though the narrator/main character woman who played the journalist was annoying and dreadful throughout. I thought the reveal of what the "problem" was turned out to be scary and great, though it would have been more convincing and far more enjoyable had the acting and writing been better.
Everything, from the dialogue, to the reactions, to the officials discussing the disaster was stilted and came off as entirely unrealistic. The narrator only made this worse with her constant babble and describing of her footage. When she stumbles upon the dead body and runs away; "Wow I am embarrassed to watch this, me running away it almost looks comedic." Come on.
I must say it reminded me of Piranha 3D, which turned out great because it didn't take itself seriously at all, more all out comedy than horror. This movie, because it just lacked the overall quality to be taken seriously, may have been better off taking that same route. Or perhaps it would have been better in the hands of more talented writers and actors all around.
It was an entertaining failure either way and not as dreadful as some are saying. Better than most shaky cam movies to come out recently (Paranormals 2-4, Chernobyl Diaries, VHS, etc.)
