Douchey dentist/husband (SPOILER possibly)

A lot of posters so far have mentioned the jerk oceanographer character, constantly berating his French female colleague for no reason (for his character or for the story). But even worse I thought was the dentist husband of the girl on the boat with the baby. OMG, I had never wanted an innocent character to die so badly in a horror movie, and this guy even had a wife and baby! From the minute they get off the boat, this idiot is completely blind and even condescending toward his obviously panicked, confused wife (carrying their baby and some luggage while he carries the camera, mind you). I don't remember all of the exact lines he says but wtf? What kinda husband are you and what kinda father are you? The stupid yuppie couldn't be the man in that situation and help figure out a solution to their obviously strange, dire problem of being alone on a Main Street with piles of dead bodies around, other than to yell at his wife about how she said there's no cell reception and insist on filming everything so her parents could know what a stupid town they lived in and the horrible reception they got as they docked.

He annoyed me too but I had so many other gripes at that point that I didn't care. For one, it's the 4th of July and you are supposed to meet your parents and other people for some big party, you haven't heard from them, there is literally NOT A SINGLE PERSON anywhere to be seen and you think everything is normal? My first reaction would have been WTF, I am going to sit my ass on this boat and try calling someone or some *beep* I definitely wouldn't wander out, who gives a *beep* if the boat didn't have gas. Then just everything else he did just added fuel to the fire.

The thing is though that even if he stayed on the boat he still would have died since the parasite entered him when he went for a swim. But thats another plot hole since when he took the swiim that was still quite a ways from Claridge at least hours away so probably still in North Carolina (where Wilmington is) or Virginia.

And I still don't see how they blocked off the highway but not the water.

That man and his wife were stupid as *beep* No one around, dead bodies, no cell service and these people keep walking around? Steal some fuel get on the boat and save your family. Who honestly would walk around and then walk into a store thinking it would be open?

Yeah, but about two minutes after getting off the boat, Stephanie begged him to come back with her because she didn't feel safe. I would be the same way...it was night, they hadn't seen the world in 7 hours, they were probably shocked.

you are all horrible persons to wish for the dentist`s death... I was so hopping the baby gets eaten alive by the monster bug that came out of the lady mouth in the police car! For a close up gorefest, would`ve rated the film a 10... what a let down!

I was like "Oh no, the baby" when i saw the bug come out of the woman's mouth in the squad car, but apparently the baby survived.

He was stupid. You are there with your baby, but insist in hanging around so you can film a dead body? Just get your child away and if you want, come back later with a stick and poke it. But at least move your child away. And he was meant to be a 'brilliant' young dentist. Not too smart though.
