Worlds better than Paranormal Activity.
I think the P.A. series is dumb as sh**.
But this movie was pretty good... pretty scary because of its seeming realism.
Good work.

Agreed. But I've only seen the first P.A. Didn't bother with the rest (why should I?)...

Agreed. Could never get into the PA movies, so I'm not sure what all the hype was about. Granted, I only saw the first 2 (and I only saw the 2nd because my girl at the time was into the first one and I didn't want to be a douche and make her go by herself), but that's all I needed to see.
I figure most people just like it to either go along with the crowd of other people saying they liked it (pop culture/herd mentality thing), because its so anti-Hollywood Horror (to the point of ridiculousness IMO...yeah, CGI fests and rushed pacing can be bad, but so can snail's pace movies where almost nothing happens lol - is it so wrong to find a happy medium?), or because it gives aspiring filmmakers hope they can make something that will catch on like that...or just make something period (if they can do it anyone can mentality).
And I tend to like the found footage horror subgenre more often than not. So I wanted to like it :-( Oh well. Just recently gave this one a shot after reading some favorable reviews on another imdb board (which is why I can't quit this place despite the douches...they recommend some good movies I wouldn't know about otherwise) and I'm glad I did. Genuinely creepy. Plus the curiosity factor - just HAD to see if the director of Rain Man could make a credible horror movie. Verdict - Yes he can :-)
And speaking of douches, people are being really harsh to the main character/narrator on here. Apparently I'm the only one, but I liked her for more than just her ass lol Seemed like a compassionate girl that I could relate to and empathize with. Probably too kind and sensitive a person for her reporter job and in over her head, but that happens sometimes...not everyone's a perfect match for their job. At least she tried to do her best and didn't abandon post (and tried to share the truth afterward - quite brave of her). Probably more than I would have done in her shoes lol
