The Nana Mama character

Why did they turn her into this mean old bitch? She is nothing like she is in the books.

reply

The entire movie is a bad portrait of the Cross series. They replaced Sampson with a tiny, creamy, white dude.

I know it was bad enough they made Sampson a white guy and don't get me started on Tyler Perry playing Alex Cross. The guy didn't even try to get into shape like the character in the book but the Nana Mama character is just awful.

Frankly, I don't remember her. I read the books after watching the movie. I did like Perry as Cross. Could have shaped up a bit, like you said, but he fits the image of Cross better than Freeman. His acting wasn't that bad, either, the writing couldn't be saved even by Laurence Olivier.

Freeman as Cross never made any sense. There was no Sampson, there was no family so 50% of the books weren't even in the movie so at least Alex Cross with Perry tried to do a better more faithful version of the books but you are right this couldn't have been save by a young Denzel Washington or any actor because the writing was so terrible.

I didn't like the movie even before I read the books, but the choice of Perry did make a lot more sense after. He was pretty good in that "Rambo" scene where he picks up his weapons and goes for revenge.

Perry took me out of the movie even if he did a great job it would be hard to get past his previous roles. I really wish Idris Elba was in this movie and that it had better writing and was more faithful to the books. Sort of combine the best of the Morgan Freeman Cross movies, great acting and pretty good writing, with a more faithful younger Cross who could act like Elba. Unfortunately I think this movie killed the franchise.

I didn't watch any of the Madea movies, so I didn't have any previous images of him.

Samson was in Kiss The Girls. I believe it was Bill Nunn.

I really enjoyed the Cross books up until Big Bad Wolf. When I saw Perry cast with Cohen directing I refused to sully my eyes with the turd I knew this would be. I fell down an IMDB wormhole and saw the cast list, thinking, "This *beep* looks so bad Ed Burns is probably Samson in this."

Good Lord he really was wasn't he?
