Prison solves nothing

Punishment does nothing except make people worse.

It's the social and economic enviroment that needs fixing.

you think these violent criminals are some aberration? they are the product of the system itself.

Everyone should just hug each other, drink some warm milk, and have a good cry.

It's the truth. A person turns into "survival mode" in prison. You trust nobody, you make very few if any friends, you think anything good someone does is a setup. These guys live that way for years and then they're set free into society & told "Ok, now be good."

Talking to inmates, alot have the mentality of "If i'm in here for a certain amount of years, i'd rather just die here."

A decent human being won't survive in prison. Some have been more successful than others reverting back to being human when they leave, but if you aren't in full "animal" mode while you're there, you're bait. It's the sad truth.

The other sad truth is most people who run the prison system admit this is reality but like most "experts" nobody can fully provide a solution.

A prisoner should be punished, but the way it's happening now is also punishing society outside those bars who have to now deal with a freed animal.

I absolutely despise the American prison system. You call that rehabilitation? No sir, not by a long-shot. Everything you said is true. I also belong to the single parent statistic, but I never anyone in my life, I don't do any drugs and I drink on my birthday and new years, which is one or two shot glasses.

America needs to follow-up with Norway's prison system. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=C4beUC3-ckw
Ok given I don't agree that murders and rapists should be treated this nice, but the country does have a low crime rate. If they just included even one element of this type of prison into every American prison, then life there would somewhat improve.

That or give every prisoner their OWN CELL. And all other activities are optional for them. Honestly, If I were in prison, I would stay the whole sentence in my cell, almost 24/7..If I could have food in my cell, good. I'll eat it there, not where the rest of those animals are and ready to kill me over nothing. If I can shower alone at 4 or 5 AM in the morning, good. I'd rather sacrifice my sleeping pattern than my life. The only safe kinda prison I can think of is a super-max or a privatized one, apparently private prisons are safe.

Some people will change, some people won't. To make a change after prison, a person really needs a good support system, a lot don't. A lot also lose their support system while in prison. It will of course be hard to find any decent job after prison. Its a cycle a lot won't be able to break.

Honestly, society outside of prison is so screwed up that it doesn't offer much change for released convicts. Most of them get out and see the same things going on before they got locked up. And most people that commit major crimes either do not care about going back to prison or do not expect to get caught. Fear is an effective method but sometimes people just choose to do something and commit to it.

So, are you all gonna walk the walk or just talk the talk?

I assume you'll all volunteer to have Charles Manson or one of his buddies as a tenant in your home.

My thoughts exactly Kiboshz.
