The whole 'grandparents raising grandchildren' thing

First of all, it's nothing new, although in past generations, it was more likely to be because the parents had died.

But don't you wonder where the grandparents went wrong in the first place, that the kids turned out the way they did (drug addictions, jail, unable to care for their children, etc.)? I said that one time to a group of retirement-age women, none of whom were doing this BTW, and that did not go over well.

Another thing I've noticed is that it seems to be almost entirely a black thing. If the grandparents are white, the grandkids are going to have some black genetics in there somewhere. Maybe that's the way it is around here, IDK.

Its a very sad and depressing cycle. I believe alot of those grandparents someway or another failed to raise their children and when those kids have children and cant raise or support them, the grandparent or grandmother is usually the one to take care and full responsibility of those children. its sad to say but alot of grandparent do for their grand kids what they couldn't do for their children.

Im not so sure on the race factor but I do think it depends on the neighborhood and social identity.
