Was it the director Alexandra Pelosi who was asking the families questions?
She seems a bit harsh and a bit condescending. "Well why don't you do this?", "Well why do you keep this here?"
This really bugged the hell out of me.
The question that bothered me the most was when she asked this one girl why do you think that God made you homeless? What kind of a question is that to ask a child?
shareI think she was trying to ask the questions a viewer/observer might have, but her tone came off wrong. Things some people have always wanted to ask (examples, not from the doc): like why some people who live in low-income areas spend a large amount of money on cars/electronics/cell phones, when they could instead use that money to get out and into a nicer area/safer life? At least my thought is that she was using her position to not only just observe, but interject those views/questions. Whether that was wrong or a bad idea...I cant really be sure.
Sometimes tone and/or the way a question is asked can totally ruin the intention, which sucks.
The interviewer was an idiot, and incompetent to be honest. Seemed to be way out of her element, there was a story here (shouldn't have been so dramatic though), but the director didn't seem to know what she was doing. She should've spoken to local teens who used to live there and made it, or teens who are now dealers etc. Usually I don't like voiceovers but it would've worked here as well.

Actually, the fact that this "idiot" is even addressing the issue makes her more proactive and socially aware than any of the other idiots on this message board complaining, griping and criticizing such a well-made documentary.
I think the better question to ask is WHY so many negative remarks are being made about an issue that affects not only the children of Orange County, but millions across our country? Is this not a disgrace and shame that such things are occuring in 2011 America? Poor choices being made by ignorant, selfish, uneducated folks who shouldn't be procreating in the first place is the main problem here. Ms. Angelina Jolie, Madonna and the countless other millionaire celebrities who've adopted foreign children didn't need to cross oceans to make a difference in a poor child's life. All they needed to do is look in their own backyard.
Also, there is something inherently wrong in our system and country when a person, albeit uneducated and poor, is unable to provide the basics for their family, even when holding down 2 or 3 jobs.
