Matt killed Andrew's mom

Once a friend of mine that watched the movie said that one of his guessings about the last Act of Chronicle was that Matt actually killed Andrew's mom, so Andrew could stop hurting innocent people to pay his mom's medication. What do you guys think of it? This is a pretty valid theory tho

it's a fun head cannon, but doesn't make sense given Matts character. He was so devoted to not hurting people, especially after Steve died.

His dad could have done it, but then the hospital scene wouldn't make much sense.

I would also say that it doesn't make sense because Matt couldn't have known about him stealing money from those guys and the gas station. The only thing Matt knew about was Andrew pulling out the bullie's teeth.

Its very unlikely that Matt killed her.

Its that man again!!

Andrew's Mom was on death's door. She needed to be in a hospital but obviously they couldn't afford it. But they couldn't afford her medication either. I feel sorry for very sick people in America...

This is the guy who travels to Tibet to honour his dead friend by filming an extra long tranquil scene? Don't think so, but on the slight chance he may have, he did did every one a favour, because she was a terminal case.🐭

No offence to the OP but that theory makes no sense.

This. We never even saw him near her. It doesn't make any sense given how Matt was. I think she was really bad off and just died, it was kind of inevitable, ut one wonders if Andrew got the money for the medicine, if that would've made a difference in the end.

Yeah Einsten! Except his mom and was already too sick and dying!

I think her death was just an inevitability. She was in the final stages of...what ever disease she was suppose to have (as with many films, it's never truly disclosed).

I think the death of Andrew's mother was just a necessary plot device to validate Andrew's descent into villainy. If he had lost it and started killing innocents WITHOUT the incentive of his mother's death and his father blaming him for it, we wouldn't have felt as sympathetic to his character.

If anything, the only possible "conspiracy theory" would be that the father did it to spite Andrew. We don't get any scenes of the father showing true love and compassion for his dying wife. Heck, the money he gets from disability was likely being drained by having to purchase medications for his wife. After Andrew finally stands up to his father, we can assume that was the "last straw" for Andrew's dad. Killing his wife would be like killing 2 birds with one stone: He'd have more money to spend on booze AND hurt Andrew in the worst way possible. As an added bonus, the son that he honestly didn't want to raise was now permanently insured in a hospital bed so he could get his kicks in continuing to torment him...

...Buuuuut little did he know the son he hurt was a telekinetic teen who had just had a mental breakdown so that plan was foiled pretty quickly.

I'm guessing emphysema.

Silly theory because all they needed was 700$ for the medicines. If you want to stop Andrew from hurting people for that money, you simply find a way to get the money, instead of fricking killing the guy's mother.

With those powers, there were ways to do a clean one-time-job to get all the monies they needed. So why Andrew went after the pocket-money of those punks is beyond me.

True Self is righteous. It's a conspiracy to portray man as a savage that needs taming and policing

If you don't understand why Matt went after those thugs then you didn't understand one of the main motifs of the movie.

Andrew, after who knows how many years of abuse and bullying, reveled in the chance to finally be the "apex predator," as he said.

While he certainly cared about getting his mother's medication to help her - he cared even more about harming those who harmed him.
