IMDB, you lied to me...

I would like to start off by saying that this was quite an entertaining film. I did enjoy it, and considered it 88 minutes well spent.

But frankly, that is being generous. This seemed to me like a movie about teenagers, for teenagers; mostly tongue-in-cheek, and with not that much depth. It follows the most stereotypical progression of "character gets extraordinary gift -> character abuses gift -> gift consumes characters life -> character learns the consequences". Even during the apex action scene of the movie, I nearly gave up on the film because I knew exactly where it was going. I like the whole 'found footage' angle some modern movies are doing, but I just felt like this one didn't need it.

Sure, it was entertaining to watch Andrew's ego spiral out of control, and seeing a darker/grittier take on super-power films, but that was something that Akira and Hancock did much better respectively (IMO). IMDB ranked this film as a 7.1, and I have seen much more ambitious sci-fi flicks score lower, namely Cloverfield at 7.0, and the War Of The Worlds remake at 6.5. Say what you will about those movies, but at 7.1, I'd at least expect something that's intellectually stimulating rather than high-school drama with a twist.
