The Lowest Rated Movie on IMDB?

The lowest rated movie on the IMDB Bottom 100 is currently "Dream Well (2009)" with a 1.3 rating and only 2,059 votes. Why isn't this movie the #1 Lowest Rated Movie on the list? URL link: http://www.imdb.com/chart/bottom/

As of today it's average rating is 1.2 with 38,148 votes. Maybe below 1.3 is too low to for even the "Worst" list. :) I personally haven't seen this movie (and quite frankly I don't think I'll bother) and therefore I have not rated it. Just curious, is there a rating lower than a 1? Do all movies ever made get at least a 1. Maybe IMDB should make the ratings 0 to 10 rather than 1 to 10. Just saying.

I know, I just came on here to say the same thing and here was your post! I was just looking at the bottom 100 myself - perhaps it's because IMDb is savvy to the amount of haters who are giving it a '1' without seeing it?
The other possible (but perhaps unlikely) factor could be that IMDb only counts the votes of people who vote regularly - so maybe people are just coming on here for the sole purpose of trashing Justin Bieber :P

I agree with you about the 0-10 thing, that would be an improvement. I suppose it's all relative in the end, though.

Because the movies aren't ranked strictly by the popular vote. It is the votes of the more important voters that really count. Those would be the people who have voted for at least a thousand movies or so.

They don't want thousands of haters or rabid fans of a movie to all log on and vote once and then create a new user and vote again and again.

Your vote only really counts if you've been around for a long time and you've voted a lot.

Is it really around a thousand films, do you think? How many people have actually rated that many, I wonder? I just found my list of rated films and it was only around 300-400, which surprised me - for some reason I thought it would be more. But I'm sure I haven't rated everything I've seen.

reply

Fair enough. It may not be a thousand, it may be more like 300 or 100 or 50. But the point is that only some voters count.

Click on the number of votes under the rating (currently that is 38,148). This gives you a breakdown of the votes. Notice down near the bottom a category called "Top 1000." Those are the voters that count and they give it a 1.7 so far.

Oh well I have no idea how many - it just makes me feel so irrelevant that my votes aren't worth being counted! :P

Ah okay I see what you mean about the "Top 1000". I just found this: http://www.imdb.com/help/show_leaf?topvoters (don't know how to make it clickable, sorry!) - but it just says:

"The top 1000 voters consist of the 1000 people who have voted for the most titles in our ratings poll. We don't disclose the number of votes required for a person to make this list nor can we confirm or deny whether you are on it, sorry."

It would be very interesting to see who has rated/seen the most films!

Your votes do count and they help make up a film's overall popular rating. It's just that your vote doesn't count (yet) towards the films that make up the best or worst lists.

That is true, haha. Must keep things in perspective :)

If what you're saying is true, shouldn't it still atleast be on the list? Which it's not.

reply

For the top and bottom list only votes from the top 1000 raters are considered. i have rated over 1200 movies and i still do not belong in that list. i know a person who has rated 8000 and belongs to that list. somewhere in between is the line where it starts to count.

Yes you are correct there. My mistake in remembering the specifics. Either way, its probably quite a high number. Possibly i already fit in it, no way to test that.

I don't know how anybody can take IMDb's ratings seriously considering the worst movie ever made, Bridget Jones: The Edge of Reason, has a rating of 5.6. There's also no way Never Say Never is worse than the 2nd worst movie ever - Weekend at Bernie's II.

reply

Tell me you're joking. Bridget Jones: The Edge of Reason is quite a good movie. Weekend at Bernie's 2 was also a campy fun movie although in a bad way but no where near as bad as some of the trash in the Bottom 100.

It's a documentary and those are ineligible for either the Top 250 or bottom 100.

reply

Ah yes, I was going to suggest that it's not included because they either don't include concert movies or docos in the Bottom 100

reply

It's considered a documentary which can't be in the bottom or top 100.

This is what is says on IMDb:

"for the Top 50, only votes from regular voters are considered.
In order to appear in the Bottom 10 Titles chart the title must have received at least 1000 votes."
