Short review (Spoiler free)

Hey all

Just saw this, so I'll give you my thoughts. I'm trying to keep this as spoiler free as possible, but I will be alluding to specific events. I will be as vague as possible, but if you keep reading, and there is a spoiler, it is your own fault
So without further delay, lets jump right in :)

Let me just say that I loved this movie. It was very well done, and very touching.

It's been a while since I've read the comic, but from what I remember, it's relatively faithful. It has been marketed as a loose adaptation, but it was a little more faithful that I expected. Obviously there was some stuff left out (including some of my favorites), but overall, it did ultimately benefit the movie. The series has a very episodic feel. This movie does a great job at keeping many of the episodic elements, but still maintaining the pace of the overall story.

The writing and voice acting was a little corny/sub-par at times. Particularly the Superman/Lois bit with the enzyme thing (trying to be vague here haha). It was really only an issue in the first 20 mins or so. After that, it really does pick up. The cast gets an overall thumbs up.

With that said, I am ultimately a fanboy. The supporting cast was fine, but I do think that the film would have benefited from casting Daly/Newbern as Supes and Brown as Lex.

The animation is great. Obviously it doesn't quite look like Quitely's art, but it does look good. It sometimes seems like they specifically pause the animation to show that they have, in fact, duplicated Quitely's art (as best as they could with their budget). They definitely got the look right.

As I said, they mostly follow the story of the comic. They dropped some storylines, but the ones that made it are pretty much the same as they were in the comic. The only real change that I could detect was the final act of Lex Luthor. He does something here, right at the end, which he didn't do in the book. I actually preferred the way it was done in the movie.

so overall, very high marks for this film.
