In preparation for the premieres of All-Star Superman, Andrea Romano did a studio interview. If you'd like to read the article I wrote from it, it is here:
Also, I'm supposed to do press at the LA premiere. I don't know who I'll get to talk to or how long I'll have with each, but if anyone wants to offer up questions they'd want answers to, pm me and I'll try to get them answered, if I can.
Wish you all the best with this press report interview you'll be doing with her. Can you say the fans on the internet thinks she's the heart and soul of the business (animation and comics wise?). she truly has pushed the envelope on her work in the field of animation, and tell her we (i) said thank you!
Far as questions go?
I have 6 i.e. half a dozen questions for her.
1) Is it possible to have Tom DeSanto's Teen Titans: Judas Contract animated film restarted by any chance? If Justice League: Worlds Collide was turned into Justice League: Crisis on Two Earths, surely the Teen Titans: Judas Contract feature could be revived and saved as well? Please ask Andrea if tom DeSanto and Paul Dini could be brought back to complete it.
And will; The Boondocks get another season (Season 4) or is Aaron McGruder ending it and moving on anyhow.
2) Please do and adapt a Captain Marvel/Shazam animated feature if the live-action movie is running into serious problems and is in *development hell* still! Will Superman, Batman, Wonder Woman, Green Lantern and Justice League all getting movies. A Captain Marvel feature would be also something to headline, either by adapting the "Power Of Shazam" (1994) graphic novel or an all new modern take on him.
DC finally showing Captain Marvel in his own feature would be something extraordinary,
3) Any chance Mark Waid's "Empire" graphic novel could become a DC animated movie? A film about supervillains being the centre i.e. protagonists of their own movie and not losing to the superheroes, would be a rather unique and brave film to try out. and waid Empire series, was friggin kickass to boot!
4) Will DC move beyond merely doing Superman and Batman films mostly and try other superhero animated features for their DVD/Blu-Ray library. And possibly adapt comics from the DC/Wildstorm comic lines also. Like; 'The Authority' (as an R-Rated feature) or any DC vertigo features like Swamp Thing, Sandman, Animal Man and The Doom Patrol for example?
5) Is there any chance of Jack Kirby's The New Gods being done as a massive animated feature! Comic fans know Bruce Timm is a huge Kirby fan and New Gods lover. So would he jump into doing a feature with Andrea along and produce a New Gods animated film! And please tell him (Bruce) its th only way to realize it than an uber expensive live action feature akin to Lord Of The Rings, lol!
finally.....
6) Why aren't many of the DC DVD/Blu-Ray movies either 100 minutes or 2 hours long? Whats the cost of a 75 minute feature in comparison to a 2 hour (120 minutes) animated feature by comparsion? what are the challenges and work load involved. Surely the films would benefit from a much longer running time, since DC features are generally better produced than the Marvel comics ones!
Hope thats what you want asked of her gollysunshine! This is too big for a PM so please take these questions and ask them for me and yourself? Thanks!
Also tell her she does an outstanding job all round. Laters
Also you could please ask Andrea Romano, if Warners would ever go the CGI animated route with programs like 'Maya' and animated features in 3D? voice would surely be the same somewhat, but as the recent cutscenes for the DC Universe video game currently shows off, cutscenes in 3D then to be gloriously eye candy for a new generation of viewers. also what are her personal thoughts on the 2D vs 3D angle and what the future of the older 'hand-drawn' 2D department of animation studios is faced with, in comparison with the growing trend of 3D and computer animated features for movies and television series as of late!
For others, here's the lineup tonight in LA for the press:
James Denton, Matthew Gray Gubler, Bruce Timm, Andrea Romano, Sam Liu & Dwayne McDuffie.
I hope to get to talk to each of them. However, sometimes the time allotted to press runs out before everybody makes the rounds and one doesn't get to talk to everyone. I'll do the best I can.
If anyone has questions for any of them and can pm me before I leave, I'll add them to the list and ask them if I get the opportunity. Please understand though that this is a press junket for All-Star Superman. That is what they are here to talk about, not other roles or other projects. Sometimes you can slip one in but this is not like just having a general one on one interview with them.
No, these aren't my interviews, but they are from the same press line. We each got our own time with each of them. But I'm sure the questions we asked were similar. It's going to be a few days yet for me to get the articles up, because I do have one article that must be done before this. So I'm shooting to get them up before the Feb 22 DVD release date. It's obviously quicker to just put the video footage up, but I'm a writer so that's not the way I go.
I did convey to Andrea your message about heart and soul. In fact I printed it out and read it to her. She lit up in smiles and said to thank the fans for making her day.
Thank you for your contributions and you'll see what else I addressed when I get the articles up.
