Super Serum Plot Hole Fixed

In the original comic, they never explain how Luthor got the same super powers as Superman. He just had it and made it in prison.

They fixed this plot hole in the movie. Luthor infiltrated the Fortress with Number 7 and stole some of the serum, and changed it to his DNA structure.

I thought this was a nice touch, and definitely connects Lois' birthday to the ending rather well.

This still leaves the other Kryptonian explorers plot line rather bare from the rest of the movie.

No, they did explain it in the comics. Luthor says in Issue #11 that he has Superman's powers "Thanks to a serum only I oculd have invented." Later in that issue, Robot 7 confesses to Superman that it stole the formula for Luthor (making good old Lexy a liar on top of everything else), but it's just less obvious than it is in the movie because Morrison's explanations happen once and quickly.

When I read the comic I assumed it was the same super serum he gave Lois. I'll have to re-read it to see how he got it.

I don't want to stop you from re-reading it, but Yodafan clearly explained how Lex got the super-serum. He claims he created it, but Robot 7 confesses to Superman that he gave it to Luthor.

Same as the movie.

Solaris plays around with robot 7's programing.
Luthor finds out from Solaris about the formula.
Robot 7 is hacked and told to give Luthor a copy of the formula.
Luthor backward engineers the very specific Lois Lane super formula.
Luthor gets the powers.
