Well duh... not the first time that idea has been trotted out.
Superman Returns was rife with jesus imagery everywhere...
I wonder if Schuster intended this when he first created the character.

You forgot Siegel, who is more the creator, though it was a joint effort. They intended more of a Moses/Samson metaphor; especially, since they were Jewish.

Fortunately, Ah keep mah feathers numbered for just such an emergency!

I was a much happier person before I learned that "kal-el" is roughly "Son of God" in Hebrew.

It's something that the old Superman shows and movies didn't flaunt until Man of Steel, which shoved that in our face the whole movie.

in all star superman, kal-el comes to earth from the heavens to show us how to live a better life and fulfil our potential, then sacrifices himself to save all life on earth. many believe him dead, but the faithful believe he will return. maybe it was the weed talking, but when i watched this film i did think "superman is jesus".

before we get started, does anyone want to get out?

^^ i do. i loved dc one million. i am a sucker for happy endings and i was glad that clark regained more than he could ever have hoped.

the story in dc one million reminds me of job; who also lost everything, but did not give way to bitterness and in the end gained twice what he had lost.

Job is a character in the Bible. His family were killed and he lost all his money, but he never lost his faith in God.

The baby floating through space in a rocket to escape the destruction of his planet (or the baby floating down the river in a basket to escape the Pharoah's order to kill all male babies of his tribe), and then becoming powerful and having awe-inspiring powers is more like the story of Moses though.

After further research, kal-el is mostly gibberish in Hebrew, but the closest translation appears to be "voice of God."

I'm not a Hebrew scholar, but the only thing I know for sure is, "El" is short for Elohim, which means God. I have NO freaking clue what Kal means....if anything.

But until I get answers from someone who know ancient Hebrew, I must now say "I don't know."
