No surprise - Barbra Streisand annoying.

It's ironic that her character is a cliche of the annoying Jewish mother and seems to be making fun of it, but who she is in real life is even more annoying.

Barbra Streisand means this box office will tank. She is BEYOND annoying.

Didn't she win an Oscar? I don't care about her either way and I admit I think this movie looks cute so shoot me.

reply

The movie is cute -- bland, predictable, and extremely formulaic, true. But it's cute, and pleasant, and any mom in the world will love it.

Oh, and even though I hate Streisand with a passion, she wasn't that bad in this film. Annoying for the first half, but surprisingly quite good in the last half, once she hits the brakes with the overly-Jewish-Mother bit.

reply

She has won two Oscars (for Funny Girl and The Way We Were) out of 5 nominations.

reply

Just because she won an Oscar for a different role, that doesn't mean she will be good in this one. And as the reviews come in, that is the case.

reply

I wasn't a Streisand Movie actor fan, but she pulled this off. She and Rogen had good chemistry. I think this movie has legs based on word of mouth.

HUH? Where did you get your information from?

She has been nominated for a Best Actress Oscar twice - for FUNNY GIRL (which she won, though tied with Katherine Hepburn that year for 'Lion In Winter') and five years later for THE WAY WE WERE (which she lost to Glenda Jackson for 'A Touch of Class'.

Her second Oscar win was for song-writing on 'Evergreen' from her 1976 movie 'A Star Is Born'. She wrote the music, Paul Williams wrote the lyrics - they each won the Oscar.

reply

No she's not. I worked on this film, and found her kind, patient, and down to earth. I also found the film charming and funny.

Why does anyone care what your right wing self has to say personally about Barbra Streisand when you cannot be objective, about movies or politics. Streisand was an adorable old lady in this movie, and I found it totally believable.
