Does Joyce remind people of other mothers?

I was wondering if Joyce reminds people of those mothers that are well meaning but can be rather talkative and annoying.

You mean lots and lots of mothers? :) We took my widowed dad, my sister who's a little younger than Streisand, her 30-year-old daughter, and the daughter's Jewish boyfriend. We all laughed our behinds off, mostly at the character stuff.

Same Here!!

I kept thinking "This is the story of my life" thru-out the movie.

Yeah.. how about my own mother.. and it doesn't help that my mother's name is Joyce. First thing I did was call my mother after watching this movie.. Geez!!

While watching this film, the first thing I noticed was the accuracy and genuine portrayal of a mother (mine would only need to change her name to Joyce), and the mother and son relationship dynamic. It really gave insight into the worry and care that mothers feel every second of the day, knowing their child (of any age) is outside in the big, bad world. The characterization was very detailed, and it added incredible depth, personality, and motivation. Very good acting and writing, and the direction was good too. Which is always hard to pull off with a film of this genre. I watched this movie because I was bored, having heard nothing about it at all. I am happy I did, it's a great film.

I took my mother to see this movie and afterwards said "tell me if I ever get to be like that". My mother does worry about me but doesn't go to the ridiculous extremes Joyce does. It doesn't give any insight to what real mothers go through, in my experience. As for the acting, Barbra Streisand substitutes emotional suffocation and squealing for comedy, she attempts to show her range but she's more herself than ever, one long kvetch for attention. Seth Rogen is reduced to the role of comic straight man. The direction is competent, sometimes awful, as in the bad rear projection in the car, which appears to cast a halo round Seth Rogen's head.

My mom acts all naggy and sometimes smothers u but doesnt overdue it well once in a while she does. Overall tho I kinda think that my mom will become just like Joyce and I know it will happen someday.
