Casting Seth and Barbara hurt this movie

I don't know why anyone thinks Barbara was good in this. While she wasn't bad, I felt she overpowered the role because of being Barbara. It was too on the money casting. We've seen her play this type of character before. You saw her as Barabar, not Joyce. Same goes for Seth. Maybe if you cast someone else in either role, it wouldn't balance out more, but you together, it didn't work. If you cast two totally different actors (and not Jonah Hill either) the movie would've been a lot better.

Also I felt like Seth was channeling Albert Brooks a little. Which is funny since Mother, starring Albert Brooks is a similar movie and way better.

I wondered about the casting myself, and then I thought that perhaps they cast Seth in the role, believing he would attract the younger viewers to this movie, since he has been in several comedies lately. The younger viewers probably didn't expect this more conservative role from him.

Completely disagree. I think Barbra played this character perfectly- maybe because it's her but that's perfect to me. She pulled at my heart strings so much... Sounds exactly like my mother in many scenes...
