did joyce remind people of their mothers

When watching the film it reminded me of my own mother with the well meaning but overprotective and nagging behavior.

Hard to let the kids grow up

"You're watching too much Sopranos, when you give your kids their allowance in envelopes"

I love it when Joyce was trying to get Andy to drink his water as a way of hydrating himself when drinking alcohol and eating the M and Ms in bed.

reply

Yes! It was super cute to watch and made me miss my mom. I loved Barbara Streisand in this role.

My boyfriend is Jewish, and he kept giggling at certain things Joyce would say or do. He said his mother likes those Audio books too in the car.

reply

Very much. My mother passed away this past January, at the age of 59, so my dad and I watched this together. We made a drinking game out of it: drink every time she reminded us of mom.
... we figured two each would cover it, but we ended up having to each open a third :-)

Yes! The part where she says something about "call your cousing Lowell, he has tuberculosis, it's around now" sounded JUST like something my mom would say. The whole character and the relationship with the son was very similar to me & my mom's relationship. My mom even eats candy in bed too.

Laissez les bons temps rouler!

reply

Yep. Very much so. And I'm not even Jewish, nor white.

reply

Not at all or in anyway. My mom does none of the things Joyce did. Sometimes I wish my mother was like that.
