Oh my god.....

Perhaps it could be a needle in the haystack type movie. But to me this movie looks like it could possibly be the worst thing to ever hit theaters. Horrific plot, funny parts in the trailer to pull you into the movie not funny, rather dreadful. Why did Seth Rogen choose this roll? And Barbara Streisand? Oy vey!

It's not what you know, it's what you can prove. Ok, but isn't seeing believing?

This movie isn't just a comedy. Sure the comedy bits are there but it's really about a guy and his mother get a connection and respect and a deeper understanding for each other during an 8 day road trip. Not to mention it has Barbra Streisand in it and Barbra is great in pretty much everything (except for the dreadful The Main Event & Little Fockers) So don't ditch this movie because you have missunderstood the plot

reply

I think the marketing for this film hasn't matched what the film was about. It used to be billed as Seth Rogen taking stock of his life and the decisions he made. I mean, it was originally called "My Mother's Curse." But they seem to be playing up the "road trip comedy" aspect a whole lot more.

This should prove interesting when it's released. But I don't think they'd release it on Wednesday if they thought it was going to be a major-league bomb. But who knows.

Yeah, it was great, don't understand people here posting all this bad karma when they just do not like the idea of the movie, since they obviously did not see. I really enjoyed it.

reply

Yeah I agree. I read the script years ago and this movie is actually really touching but they have marketed it as comedy and that has probably made some people diss this movie because they think it's probably just another comedy. And of course Barbra haters diss it because they can't stand Barbra for some reason

reply

Hey Vicky, how did you read the script? If you have a copy, could you please share it? My email is [email protected]. I have a bunch of scripts from movies that aren't even close to being released in the theater and have no problem sharing one or two of them with you. Please reach out. Thanks!

I just watched this movie out of curiosity because I am a long-time Striesand fan and I find Seth Rogen to be a very appealing actor. He has a kind of sweetness--an everyman aura about him. I was pleasantly surprised because the movie was so much more than the trailers promoted it to be. I was about relationships--especially between mothers & sons with Barbra as the well-intentioned but annoying mother & Seth as the tolerant, long-suffering son. The road trip angle is useful in helping both mother & son discover each other in a new way--to learn things about the other that they never knew before & come to the conclusion that they really love each other but more importantly they respect each other. I especially liked the ending with Joyce calling Ben--a new chapter in her life. I would recommend this movie to all who are willing to sit back & enjoy a delightful little movie that was marketed/promoted in a way that did harm rather than good for the movie & its cast...

agreed, only gave this a chance because I like Rogen - and i'm glad I did. A great story, a million times more believable than the vast majority of droos served up as comedy these days. And it's funnier than Ted, it's funnier than the Hangover. the only drawback is that it is soo formulaic and very VERY predictable.

Me too - love them both. I thought the movie was really sweet and funny. And really good acting. Not sure what people expected but I thought it was charming. The only thing I thought was far fetched was Babs saying she was getting hot flashes. She's 70ish now. Even if she was playing 60ish - those flashes have flashed by, sister. But I loved it and loved her in it.

reply

A good rule of thumb is .. If Seth Rogen is in the movie, the movie will not be worth watching.

reply

If horrendously overrated and hard to look at directly in the face Streisand is in the movie, kill it.

Well I personally could relate to the movie. My grandmother is a lot like Joyce, for instance her fixation with food is exactly like my grandmothers. I don't understand why she shows her love through feeding me, maybe it's an evolutionary thing, i really don't know. Interestingly my mother is also gaining the same qualities same as she ages. I don't know what it is, but when women in my family age they just become anoying in a kind of endearing way. It's diffucult to explain this phenomena, and I don't even know how to call it, but that might be the reason why I enjoyed the movie...

Needle in a haystack type movie? What does that mean?

I thought it was an entertaining film. I saw no 'horror' in the plot other than the intended horrific comedic play between mother and son.

I haven't seen a trailer, just watched the movie based on the actors involved and enjoyed it.

I'd like to know why my copy of this movie was in French. A total waste of time and MB's.

Dear OP, I hope you realize that just about every movie here on imdb has a post where someone claims it to be the worst movie ever made. I hope you realize that it makes you look like a teenager who hasn't seen many movies. Try to remember that your bad movie watching experience isn't the same as a badly made movie.

I get that you thought the movie was not funny. Do you only like movies you think are funny? What was so horrific about it?

reply

LOL @ you expecting it to be Rogens usual comedy.

reply

Why do people post without seeing the movie? It was a nice movie.
