Since when did it become an endearing thing to name your kid after your ex-lover and not tell the spouse that's what you're doing??? Did I miss something here? It's pretty screwed up and I'm really surprised the movie tried to make it a "cute" thing.

I have a couple friends who were named after their fathers' mistresses. The girls found out about it in their early teens. Seems kinda creepy and an insult to the mother. The parents in each case divorced. I don't think it's cute either.

shareI can't imagine someone who actually has had kids coming up with this plot bit. As you said, who could be so insensitive as to name their child after "the one that got away", what an insult to the spouse, if that doesn't say doomed (or bad)marriage nothing does.
shareWell it's not clear whether he told his wife about his ex. If he didn't, this is totally a silent insult to the spouse. In the original Ju-On (the Grudge), the woman was killed by her husband because she secretly named their only son after a man she loved, and when the husband found out, he thought she has cheated on him and the son was not his own.
