I wonder what would be a rather interesting plot point for the third film. Maybe Gru estranged father shows up hoping to make amends with his son but Marlena warns that Grus father is the most sinister of all villains and this the reason gru became one.
sharePretty sure, considering not subtle at all consumerism/get married/have more babies/make them consumers too propaganda in this movie, the next one will be around Lucy being pregnant and Gru dealing with having his own baby. I also bet 1 million dollars it will be a baby boy. Just as this movie was about Gru trying to date and meeting his wife. Everything else was just a distraction.
Lately Hollywood animations are not shy about promoting ideological themes of American consumerism and capitalism in most direct form ever. It was always there, but more subtle. Now it's just direct to your face messages - it's bad to be alone, go on dates and have a partner. Mall and shopping is a good thing, go waste money and buy things. Open small business, earn money. Have babies and family. Waste your time on stupid mindless entertainment, don't think about problems, don't feel disappointment and depression, look at these pretty colors.
Like a visual cocaine. And it's good to escape for a while, but problems in life don't disappear when you do.
And you know, I get it, I do. This is how it works, fine. But at least make good movie, funny and original. But it's just worse and worse every time. Nobody is trying harder nowadays.
