Nominated for best original song as well, it may have a chance there but it will probably go to Mandela: Long walk to freedom or Frozen again. Interesting Pixar were shut out this year, seems like someone is trying to rectify their decision from last year.
shareI don't think Despicable Me 2 was better than the first one, along with the fact Frozen & the Studio Ghibli film The Wind Rises were also nominated.
So while getting nominated is some nice recognition by itself, there's no way it'll beat both those films mentioned. And I think The Wind Rises will end up winning over Frozen if the Disney/Pixar bias of the academy doesn't kick in.

I hope so.
While I laughed throughout DM2 and thought it was a fairly good movie, I honestly think that Frozen is so far out of its league that there could be no comparison. Actually, my top two movies of 2013 are Frozen and Monsters University; aside from wanting to give someone besides Pixar a shot, I can't understand why MU wasn't nominated. Pixar IS flat-out amazing, and if that means they snag almost every award, then so be it. xD
Also, I can't wait to see The Wind Rises, because Ghibli is also amazing.
I'm glad DM2 got nominated, but I'd be beyond shocked if it won.

lol, Monsters University was MEDIOCRE at best.
Despicable Me 2 should have won over Frozen, but the people who vote for the Academy Awards don't vote for Comedy over Drama often enough.

I think MU is excellent. But there was no contest with the Oscars; Frozen got what it deserves. (Obviously our opinions differ, though I think mine's probably shared by the majority.)
I know they tend to weigh drama more heavily than comedy, but I like both and just go for what I think are the best movies overall. 8D
