Al Pacino

So I heard/read that Al Pacino was initially cast as El Macho but left mid-way due to creative differences. CREATIVE DIFFERENCES????!!?!?!?!?!?! The guy worked in the absolutely ATROCIOUS "Jack & Jill" and he has reservations about voicing an animated character????? Maybe he really is as crazy in real life as the characters he plays on screen.

Mr McGee, don't make me angry. You wouldn't like me when I'm angry!

I went into the cinema with Al Pacino listed in the cast on the cinema's own synopsis only to wonder when he was going to pop up through the entire film.

creative differences might be a euphemism for salary dispute.

That's what it feels like to me too. In the end it's always about money. Just like when Robert Downey Jr. said that he wasn't sure if he'd reprise the role of Iron man after IM3 and Marvel slapped a big paycheck on his face and he was as happy as a clam. Same thing happened when Sean Connery didn't want to do Bond anymore and once he saw the moola that was offered to him, he jumped right back.

"Creative differences" in Hollywood is the same as "irreconcilable differences" in Divorce.

Sean Connery wanted to break free from typecasting though, a stipulation of Diamonds Are Forever was that he got the backing for two of his own productions and used his pay for that film to establish the Scottish International Education Trust to help fund new talent... so it's not fair to use Connery as an example.

reply

What about "You Only Live Twice"? and "Never Say Never Again"? Did he do those two to fund another trust? or to bring variety to his roles?

It doesn't matter what he used the money for. The point is, he first refused the role and when he was offered more money, he took it.

Sean Connery has enjoyed a variety of roles though post-Bond (at significant salary loss after escaping Bond). Even with Never Say Never Again Connery was digging the angle that he was playing an aged spy on the brink of retirement.

I don't really see the problem with actors demanding their worth anyway and it's not really any of our business, it's all about supply and demand. I'd play Bond for FREE (plus expenses) but I haven't built the reputation.

But if you want to point your finger at someone, try Bruce Willis, who now only plays Bruce Willis who made the take it or leave it demand of $4 million over a four day schedule for his Expendables 3 cameo!

Actually Pacino recorded all of his lines before leaving. So saying that he left due to creative differences doesn't make a whole lot of sense.

You will die! Like the others before you, one by one, we will take you!

More importantly - who has creative differences about a frickin' kids movie?? It's not like this is Shakespeare! It's just meant to be fun.
