So does this movie actually have horror elements?

Yes they are vampires, but there are vampires in Twilight too and it's not horror.

CG GORE IS THE WORST THING THAT HAS EVER HAPPENED TO THE HORROR GENRE!

I don't know about the books, but the movie wasn't horror, IMHO. More like paranormal suspense? 

Yeah, that sounds about right to describe the movie as paranormal suspense but the books are definitely paranormal romance.

Too bad they cut the romance from the movie, it might have been better had they left it in. I do like the movie, however.

BTW: I haven't read the books ... yet. I have huge, huge TBR piles, so it could be a while.

Vampires don't always equate to horror. Underworld and Blade are action/sci-fi, Twilight is a chick flik... and so is this.

Well most horror movies have a hot chick who gets naked or nearly so.

These days, most movies (and half the shows on TV) have a hot chick who whips 'em off every other scene.

True, but I first saw her in Ringer, so I enjoyed better than the average show.

The only horror parts would probably be the Strigoi attack in the beginning and Lissa's Strigoi nightmare. I guess the Ms. Karp stuff they added could be psychological horror-ish.
