Victim small analysis /SPOILERS/

At the beginning I can tell you that I really didn't like this flick. Just to explain myself I always say I did or didn't like the movie I never say it's bad or good because the fact that I didn't like it doesn't mean it's bad or good in a case i liked the movie :-)

Now a small analysis why it didn't work for me...SPOILERS BELOW!!!

The main reason is the story/script...
We got a little thriller here about a loner who gets in touch with cops gone crazy because their reputation is in danger and one stripper who whitnessed their crime and who has to be silenced...The loner Kyle /Biehn/ provides shelter and protection for the stripper /Blanc/ and gets in a fight with the cops who are after her...
Nothing new but could work if it had a deeper insight some fresh elements...some innovative way to tell this cliche story. Tarantino /who is quoted here/ also takes old story but he adds new elements to it that make it fresh again....there was nothing like it in here...

First of all...I found the main characters absolutely unsympathetic..
The character of Annie especially...she gets shelter and help from a guy and from the beginning she treats him like cheeky bi..tch...if I were Biehn's character I would get her out of my cabin to find another a**hole to help her out...No matter how big breast and small skirt she has...in fact I kind of wished those two cops murdered her painfully...

Kyle is more unbelievable than unsympathetic as a character...too easy to be convinced by her to help her and too willing...if I skip the fact she talks to him like he's some punk...he's a loner who wants to be alone...suddenely foreign unknown hysterical girl yells at him to help her...and after five minutes he is convinced...it would be far more interesting to take the story only from the Kyles perspective and through him the audience didn't know if her story was true or made up or she is just crazy so there would be interesting to know if the cops are bad or the girl is bad...and find that out at the end of the movie.

"A big shot cop who runs the show" goes with a partner to make a coke party with some whores somewhere in the woods where any one can see them...no hotel room or anything...

There are another weak moments...when after an hour another cop shows up suddenly to save the first one from the main protagonists why didn't they kill Kyle and Annie immediately at the place?
Why to drive them back to the cabin where they split them up /Annie is supposed to be killed in front of the cabin and Kyle inside.../ it doesn't make sense...
it is just fabricated prolongation of the story...

Annie is devastated she lost her friend and first thing that comes to her mind is to f**ck a stranger she just met...it's just unbelievable.

The black hair cop is supposed to kill Annie...takes her out and she offers him a blow...b...and he agrees....it's really stupid scene...
Ok, I am a cop...i have to kill a girl and I have a gun pointed at her and she offers me a blow...b...what do I think?...Ok she likes me cause I guess I'm too hot...let's do it I kill her later...Anything like she can bite my d*ck off because she has nothing to loose to safe her life doesn't hit my mind at all...
/Well it didn't happen but she got rid off him another way/

I don't like stupid bad guys...I like smart ones that are challenge to beat...these two mor..s did't work as a bad guys at all...

And so forth and so on...the dialogues are bad from time to time also...

I know this is supposed to be a B movie Grindhouse but even a B movie needs to have an inner logic...something audience can count with...it wasn't here at all...
to be funny doesn't mean to be ridiculous...

I'm so sorry I can't say good things about this Michael's debut movie cause I wish him a succes but can't say I liked it just because I'm his fan...

I hope Biehn and Blanc would learn from the mistakes and do better next time...I'm fan of Biehn's past work and I believe he still has some great projects ahead...but I believe this is not the way for them....

On the other hand I must say I loved The Divide...and some more opportunities like this would be great for Michael...

Try harder on a script next time...
Good luck...
Cheers

i actually liked that at first he seemed like a very unassuming guy who we then find out that hes got a criminal record.
i didnt find her actions to be over the top because shes traumatized. her best friend is dead and the guy that did it is now after her to kill her. very hard for someone to be rational and calm about things. especially to some stranger she knows nothing about.

he isnt quite convinced until awhile later. which they keep pointing out throughout. thought that seemed a bit off but i guess its just because Biehn and Blanc have an actual relationship. had they gotten a different actress, im sure it wouldnt have seemed like if they were comfortable with one another.

im glad that they didnt give us the perspective of Kyle. one of the strenghts of the film is that we know little to nothing about the guy. at the end just before credits roll you see the guy may just be a little unhinged. to me that would not have worked if we found out all this backstory on the guy.
youd have to follow the film through Annie's eyes because she is the one who is being persued. thats the emotionality of the story, is that her best friend was killed and the douche that did it wants to kill her.

"A big shot cop who runs the show" goes with a partner to make a coke party with some whores somewhere in the woods where any one can see them...no hotel room or anything...

who is this 'any one'?? think the point was that he is a big shot cop, so obviously he would get recognized if he went to a hotel or anywhere in town. so he had to be in the secluded woods. because no one else is out there except for Kyle. so i dont see how youd say anyone can find them out there since there are no extras in the background or anyone passing or driving by.

There are another weak moments...when after an hour another cop shows up suddenly to save the first one from the main protagonists why didn't they kill Kyle and Annie immediately at the place?

because then that would be the end of the movie. that doesnt make a good movie if the bad guys kill the good guys. the other guy even feels conflicted about having to kill Kyle and Annie. thats good enough of a point to not kill them right then and there. these guys are after all cops and not bloodthirsty killers.
i think it was very obvious that mr big shot cop wanted to torture Kyle. i dont even want to begin to imagine how that guy's crotch wound up . clearly he wants to keep Kyle alive for as long as he can and make the guy scream in agony while mutilating his crotch. taking Annie outside to shoot her makes enough sense. dont want spurts or puddles of blood in the cabin. unless they planned to set the thing on fire but that would bring too much attention or even cause a massive fire all through the woods.
also there was still a possibiilty he would not have killed her. as well as serving us with the sleazy shot of her going down on him.

Annie is devastated she lost her friend and first thing that comes to her mind is to f**ck a stranger she just met...it's just unbelievable.

youd be surprised at how women get in the mood when they are under extreme stress or grief. it didnt seem unatural. a bit too quick sure but this isnt intended to be a film with loads of exposition and character development.

hes a guy haha. and again he wasnt the kind of guy who was going to go out and kill her without feeling any bit of remorse. who knows what would have happened after she blew him.
if she were to bite him he would have been able to react and shoot her right then. plus thatd mean we would need plenty of blood and probably mutilated crotch prostetics. dont think they had the time to bother with that.
quite smart though that she waits till the guy is about to have an orgasm where he is caught off guard and cant think straight obviously because of the orgasm. he even pleads for her not to shoot him.
felt kinda bad for the guy because he is not sinister like the other cop.

I don't like stupid bad guys...I like smart ones that are challenge to beat...these two mor..s did't work as a bad guys at all...

thats cause they werent meant to be smart bad guys. they were guys that had an accident in the woods and are afraid to deal with it the right way. so they go about with the plan of taking out the only possible witness that knows they are out there.

And so forth and so on...the dialogues are bad from time to time also...

i didnt have a problem with the lines. they werent delivered in a poor way.i was somewhat confused if wether the way Jennifer's delivery was meant to make us think Annie could be guilty of something big or if the character is just supposed to come off as being troubled.she is a stripper so who knows what kind of emotional baggage she has.
usually its the cliche of the 'hero' being the one who seems guilty of something, while the girl in distress is the one who comes off as completely innocent.

I know this is supposed to be a B movie Grindhouse but even a B movie needs to have an inner logic...something audience can count with...it wasn't here at all...

its an exploitation film. it doesnt need any logic whatsoever. i was impressed that we got as much as we did without it looking and feeling cheap. if you are a fan of exploitation flicks from the 60s,70s,and 80s then youd appreciate this film for what it is. which is for the most part just sex, violence, and sleazy characters.

the idea of The Victim was to make an exploitation film on practically nothing. it was literally just friends and family that were the crew. they had very little time to shoot. hell Michael even admits that into the production he was still working on the script.

this is like a fan of film to make a movie with what little they have and put it on youtube. whats great in this case is that we get Michael Biehn, Jennifer Blanc, and Danielle Harris as the actors. along with what Michael has learned from his years of being an actor.
i think its a great accomplishment for something that was just done on the fly with very little money.
the proof in that it was so well recieved is that Michael and Jennifer are working on other low budget films of this style. so i think they succeeded with their little project.

The Divide was great but that was a film with a fairly sized budget, time, an intriguing director. and an ensemble cast. The Victim was practically no budget, shot in i think only 2 weeks, and with only 5 actors total.
