sharei take it by your post that your not from Australia?
what a lot of people don't understand is that the place were the movie takes place is a very low class area, in fact i recon that 90% of the people living there would be on new start allowances which is what social security is called over here. i personally think of them as bogans which in the states that would be the same as people who live in trailer parks. they director pretty much nailed the image environment of what its actually like there.
Abbie Cornish
Rose Byrne
Mia Wasikowska
Elle MacPherson
Gemma Ward
Olivia Newton-John
Yep. All pretty scary looking. :)
I do agree. They did pick some winners for the movie. Thankfully not representative of the average Australian.
I didn't think they were particularly ugly, but typical for people from the lower classes. It was refreshingly realistic casting, IMO.
sharePeople that live in these sort area's are not models and body builders its realistic as to what they look like. And what do trailer park and people that live in projects look like hmmm?
in todays news paris hilton has now made it illegal to weigh no more than 108 pounds.
from wikipedia
"Screen Australia announced in March 2010 that it would be funding the film[5] and Film Victoria provided $245,000.[6] The film was produced by Warp Films Australia,[7] a collaboration between Warp Films and distributor Madman Entertainment.
Peter Campbell of Warp Films Australia had to get the remaining suppression orders lifted so the film could be premiered.[8][9]
Snowtown is Justin Kurzel's first feature length film as director.[4] His short film Bluetongue was shown at the 2005 Cannes Film Festival.[5]
Apart from Henshall and Greene, the actors were locals with no acting experience that Kurzel had found in the area where the murders occurred, with most from Davoren Park. Kurzel himself grew up in the area and felt that using locals would move the film from being a one dimensional horror show to a tragic human story showing what happens when people are disadvantaged. Davoren Park is considered one of the most violent and dysfunctional suburbs in Australia. According to Kurzel, far from the "wow, I'm going to be a movie star" attitude that he had expected, he had some difficulty convincing them to take part.[10][11]

What did you expect Hollywood glamour? It is a film about every day ordinary looking people not trumped up glamour people with make- up and fancy clothes, you should read the books. These ppl were down and outers and lived the life of poverty in poverty stricken burbs.
shareThese ppl were down and outers and lived the life of poverty in poverty stricken burbs.?Just like the characters in Snowtown, I was making a sarcastic comment in regards to OP.
