It was great. I also noticed Duke Nukem, and the halo assault rifle. Tom Sawyer, the delorean, etc. so much stuff! Who do you think that Orc looking character is?

Looks like the film shows the giant alongside Wade and Samantha's avatars. Maybe one of the others, perhaps "Aech" chose it instead of a Gundam robot.
Possibly they didn't get rights to Japanese characters, meaning no Gundam, Raideen or Ultraman. It's at least (depressingly) possible that the film version would stick to Western pop culture to reach a wider, American audience.
Every reference requires its own licensing agreement in a film like this, so it wouldn't surprise me if they only stuck to Hollywood film references.
I hope you are wrong but fear you may very well be right.
As I said, I will be very disappointed if Ultraman doesn't get the prominent appearance that he had in the book. If I see Ultraman on the big screen I think I will cry tears of joy.

I think they'd be dumb to overlook Ultraman, whatever the cost. Ultraman media & merchandise have been continuously popular in the U.S. for five decades.
To go a step further, most of the references are limited to properties for which Warner already possesses the rights. Spielberg also requested to remove most of the nods to his work.
