Cast for remake...

Which american actors would you choose for the parts of both Philippe and Driss?

I would choose Dustin Hoffmann as Philippe and Chris Tucker as Driss.

I think it would be great seeing Chris Tucker as Driss, don't you think? He's damm funny and the character would suit him very well.

reply

The French actor reminds me a lot of Dustin Hoffman, but Hoffman is too old now. I'd pick someone like Ewan McGregor or Jude Law, each capable of authentic American accents, each capable of playing a wealthy gentleman, and not too large so that Driss could be able to carry them.

For Driss, if I stayed with a dark-skinned person, I'd probably pick Djimon Hounsou, he has the size and the look and would do that part very well. Or maybe Bokeem Woodbine or go out on a big limb with Shaquille O'Neal. O'Neal could handle the part and his size would make for some interesting situations!

I have a hard time seeing Chris Tucker as Driss.

I like your choices for the roles (txMike) but I think Chris Tucker would be amazing for Driss. He has the tallent to bring deep tones and a natural comedic acting that would radiate naturaly like the franch actor. That was one aspect that really got to me. The acting of both was so natural, it felt like it was not acting, almost feel liek it was a genuine blooper when some laugh happened. Well, that is how acting should feel, 'not acted'. And somehow I feel that Tucker would have that for that role. Not only for the comedic parts but th ehuman and deep moments too.

But I also want Daniel Day-Lewis for the role of Philippe.

And the same composer for the music. the score was perfect.

reply

Daniel Day-Lewis would be great!

As for Driss i don't see anyone here mentioning Adewale Akinnuoye-Agbaje, i think he is kinda similar in looks and attitude

reply

Lol, I was just going to replay with those two names. I also think that Adewale is very similar to Omar Sky.

reply

Djimon Hounsou is too serious, try Idris Alba

reply

Jessica's brother?

I prefer Idris ELBA myself.

reply

*ELBA. Yes. Thanks.

How could Elba - an actor in his forties - plausibly play a troubled youth?

I agree that this requires no re-make, but sadly I expect there will be one. And it won't be as good as this, original, version.

reply

troubled youth? Omar and Idriss are only 6 years appart

reply

For what reason would you want to make a remake?

"What If" is a game for scholars.
Timothy Dalton, The Lion in Winter (1968)

reply

Why a re-make? The film grossed $400M outside the US...barely noticed in the US. That's more than enough reason for Weinstein.

careful, hollywood always wants to do remakes but generally those movies are never as good as the original.

There is no reason to remake this. Ever. It is great as it is.

reply

While I was watching this film, I was actually thinking in my mind that if they were going to do a remake that Dustin Hoffman was exactly alike. I also agree with Chris Tucker who people underrate as a actor. I think he has the energy but also the dramatic tone needed for the film.

"Whoo-ah"

reply

Why would you want to remake something made in 2011

reply

The question asked is what might the cast be, NOT whether it should be remade, or when. It is a "what if" exercise, as in if it were remade with American actors, who might play the parts, without regard for whether it will ever be remade.

However you could use your own question to start a new thread if you wanted it answered.

reply

First off, an american remake would butcher this movie, that's for sure, so I do not endorse a remake at all.

But for discussions sake and playing "what if ... ?" I'd say:

Alan Rickman as Philippe
Richard Ayoade as Driss
Kim Director as the lesbian assistant

reply

I have read that they are remaking this, with Hugh Jackman and Omar Sy from the original film. It seems pretty pointless to me, but there you go.

reply

Michael Keaton and Don Cheadle
