Okay, the movie was ok, but I thought was nothing special and will be forgotten soon. It had a lot of hype in my country (I am German) but I never believed this would be mainstream around the world. And yes, I don't have to like every movie on the top 250, but number 38? Really? This is higher ranked than movies like 2001: a space Odyssee, A Clockwork Orange, Memento, Apocalypse Now, Once upon a time in America and many others.
Depressing top 250 list. Every movie that comes out is for at least a short period of time on the 250, especially if it features flying vigilante Spandex Suits. Two of the most nerv wrecking pictures on it are Shawshank as number 1, a film that has nearly nothing done for cinema and is above that not that special, its just more commonly known (ratings speak for it as it is the flick with the most ratings by users). The second is "The Dark Knigth" which is don't get me wrong not a bad film perse but it ain't that special to be placed 4th above shokingly low placed or not at all in the list movies, how come nothing from Kubrick is even in the top 10 or likes like Blade Runner, pictures from Hitchcock, Kurosawa, heck even Return of the jedi, and why in the hell is first of Interstellar in this list and then even 60 places above 2001???, without 2001 Interstellar wouldnt even exist plus 2001 has proven that after nearly 50 years it's still up to date and therefore a timeless Master Piece, just like Beethovens 5th. I could go on and on about that God damned list but I'll stop as it is a war that can't be won
You sum up exactly how I feel about the top 250 and its domination by Instant Classic Syndrome (a term I invented all by myself).
For each 'instant classic' that is spewed out by the Marvel Machine, an established classic has to make way.
As of today, the next classic to step aside will be Brief Encounter. We should all see it before it's forgotten.
And yeah, it also drives me nuts that the films with the highest ratings also happen to have the highest number of votes.
Personally, I would like to see the top 250 modified so that a film has to be at least 3 years old before it could qualify. But we all know what would happen then, sadly: mass campaigns by people to try to get their latest favourite to 'debut at number one'.
I agree, overrated and overly formulaic. There were no surprises in this film, I thought with all the positive reviews there'd be something more to see here. It was all just fluff.
