i think this show had potential!

If u go back over the years to all of the most popular shows on tv, and have ran for many years, i think u will notice something...MOST if not all of these shows had slow beginnings! i know some of the actors were not the best, and yes some of the plot is a little strange ( only starting off with like 12 soldiers and such) but stories grow, i think that starting off with nothing and growing into something huge is the mark of a great show! i think if this show had one more season, it would show us all that it is a great show!

I think the premise of the show had GREAT potential, I hadn't been excited about a show like this in a long time. Early days of Camelot, the building of a kingdom from scratch, young Arthur growing into a great leader of men, all of which wrapped into a more mature, historical, realistic package than the BBC's Merlin... a story based on Malory, taking us from start to finish through Malory's most popular and best-known episodes... That was everything I had ever wanted about an Arthurian story, and the fact that it was meant to be a TV series, not a movie, made it all the more exciting to me. Hours and hours of excitement ahead!

Unfortunately, the show never delivered: Malory was nowhere to be found, the historicity and realism were a joke, Arthur didn't grow one inch (except his hair), neither did Camelot, and both Arthur and Guinevere, which they decided to make so central to the plot (when Malory's early days of Camelot are all about war and gore) were slapworthy. it is terribly frustrating that no season 2 will ever see the light of day to try and redeem this mess, but it was rightfully deserved.

"Occasionally I'm callous and strange."

it definetly could have been good there are several problems i have with it
1. Morgan being the main villain again i think there should have been other kings to challenge Arthurs right to the crown
2. i would like to have seen people question whether Arthur was Uthers son more in the first episode than they did
3, Arthurs military was crap he should have had more soilders

What the others said.

Eva Green as Morgan le Fay was dream casting. Joseph Fiennes should have been solid for a "non-traditional" Merlin. Kay, Leontes and Gawain were okay. If only the writing were better. Arthur looked and sounded like a Mordred.

I did like Morgan's nun mentor and the increased role for Arthur's mother, though pairing her romantically with Merlin was strange. Still, they were innovative for Arthurian treatments. Also Morgan's handmaiden. Innovations done right.

Guinevere cheating on her husband with Arthur was innovation done wrong. Now I'm not opposed to a horny Arthur since he wasn't so squeaky-clean in the early material but they didn't make him sympathetic or commanding enough to make up for it. His actor is also partly to blame.
