Show became a failure for not having Lancelot
Leontis is a poor man's Lancelot. What fool decided not to put Arthurian legend's greatest knight? Game of Thrones is infinitely better than this show. Thankfully it was cancelled.

shareWhile it is a poor show, it's not necessarily for that reason. Lancelot is a relatively later addition to the Arthurian legend. Some versions make Gawain the greatest warrior/knight. Even earlier versions point to Kay, closely followed by Bedivere (not appearing in this show).
shareI just had a Monty Python moment reading your post, MrBooga, with "Sir Not-Appearing-in-this-Show". ^^
Other than that, I agree; I don't feel the need for a Lancelot in an Arthurian tale. Especially in one that had such a promising Gawain.
"Occasionally I'm callous and strange."
I'm only just watching this and - while not a great show - I love Gawain
shareLancelot would have been introduced in season 2, hence with the Round Table being built at the end, and the hint of another Champion, with Arthur saying no one will be able to fill Leontes's spot, which we know Lancelot most likely will. Buuuuut now we won't be able to see that.... Damn, if Starz continued with it, I bet season 2 would have be an enormous improvement, and I loved the first season.... Shame, so much they could do, yet they just up and cancel it.

A Dance With Dragons July 12th.
I've never seen an Arthurian adaption that starts with Lancelot in Arthur's court. Lancelot is a foreign knight who hears about Camelot and the round table, and decides that he needs to serve King Arthur because he is the best knight in the world.
Of course, some legends say Gawain is the best; however, we don't get into that right now.
I really liked Leontis, though. Sad about his death.

Clive Owen's King Arthur?
shareIs that a counter example? as in, "King Arthur" had a Lancelot from the start and it was still a great movie?
I'd hate to go ahead of the discussion, because I think that's an interesting point. So maksavorst, I hope you visit this thread again to clarify, so we can start to discuss. I think it's an interesting point you raise, if I read it right, but I'm not sure.
"Occasionally I'm callous and strange."
Yes, I meant Clive Owen's "King Arthur" had Lancelot from the start and it was a good movie.
shareTechnically, in "King Arthur", Lancelot is never knight to the king, Arthur. Lancelot dies before Arthur is crowned king.

King Arthur is considered a good movie?
shareAll movies are "good" or "bad" in comparison to other things. Compared with Camelot (the series), I would say KA was a pretty good movie, yes.
"Occasionally I'm callous and strange."
The last time I saw King Arthur was about 2 years ago and I liked it, might have to rewatch it soon. So yes, at least I consider it a good movie.
shareThe presence or absence of Lancelot is irrelevant.
The show was a failure because they had a total casting failure with the King, and didnt managed to come up with believable, original, or otherwise convincing scripts and storylines.

A gentleman will not insult me, and no man not a gentleman can insult me.
With such good casting for Leontes and Gawain and such terrible casting for Arthur himself, who do you think they would have cast as Lancelot if we'd had a second / third season? Who would you have cast?
