Great Movie, But Massive Plot holes and Mistakes

I overall really enjoyed this film, It wasn't great by any means but was worth the rental for sure. I think though the one issue I can't get over is how many massive mistakes were made by the Characters. Addison, I'm assuming was the more experienced criminal of the two siblings.. My first major complaint was why didn't the people simply take the police car? They had a perfect opportunity to remove the blood from the snow, cover it up, hide the trooper, and have a mode of transportation. There was no traffic, It probably would not have taken them more than a few minutes to clean up the accident scene and get out of dodge..

My second huge issue was why didn't they move the car? Okay if they must travel by foot, which seems insane, why didn't they just drive the trooper's car off the road? I know Addison said the trooper called for backup more than likely, but they could have bought themselves some time by turning his emergency lights off and hiding the car? Both Characters were carrying smart phones, they could have easily phoned for a Cab or car service to come meet them someplace near by.

Agree, also to split up on hoof not well insulated into the woods during a blizzard seemed a bit ridiculous when they had a vehicle at their disposal.

reply

You mean that blizzard where NO snow flakes began building up in the characters hair or clothes? That fake CGI snow? lol. Seriously, watch that scene again.

reply

Something I thought was ridiculous was the fact that that woman with the two children thought it a good idea to tell her abusive, alcoholic husband that she wants a divorce while alone in his tiny cabin in the woods. Seriously? At first I thought that's where they lived, but her mother made it clear that was his "hunting cabin" so why didn't she just do it at a normal house, perhaps even with family and friends around if he is such a psycho. Not a plot hole, obviously, but a rather stupid explanation for that.

reply

Not plotholes by any means, just dumb decisions. I enjoyed the film as well.

You're as obvious as Quentin Tarantino's foot fetish.

reply

These aren't plot holes, let alone massive plot holes. These are decisions that were made by people who obviously aren't professionals at this. The portrait of these characters indicates that they wouldn't necessarily have thought of such things, and are likely in over their heads. What does it say about us as a society that we can look at criminals like this and say "I would've been able to get away with it much better"?

The instrument has yet to be invented that can measure my indifference to that remark.

reply

I don't know. Driving a police car seems like a good way to be quickly caught.

reply

I'm pretty sure police cars have tracking devices so taking the police car would not have been smart.

reply

Agreed, it would have been idiotic to take the car. An easy way to get caught. And hiding the car and all traces of the accident in the time they had, with the equipment they had, was not a realistic option.

reply

I thought this was a massive plot hole myself but I watched this scene again and it's not. If you listen closely, the cop has already called in the position of the accident and back up is on the way. If they had gotten in the cop car, they may have been caught quickly. I myself would have risked it even after hearing the radio call but these are not reasonable people and Addison is probably in shock.
