How do so many good actors sign on for something so boring?

I'm really interested to know how something like this happens.

Another similar but even more extreme case would be the 1995 movie Outbreak. It's cast consisted of:

dustin hoffman - academy award winner
morgan freeman - academy award winner
kevin spacey - academy award winner
cuba gooding jr - academy award winner
donald sutherland
rene russo
patrick dempsey

...and it was laughably terrible. How can people with such talent not recognize such crap beforehand?

Were you thinking the actors in Deadfall would find it more interesting to be in The Expendables 2, Snow White and the Huntsman or Jack The Giant Slayer??

You seem not to have noticed that in Hollywood, actors are a dime a dozen. This is why the acting is so good in most movies, because there's cutthroat competition. If you turn down a script, good luck finding another decent one.
None of these actors in this movie are hot stars (like say Leo DiCaprio), so they can't just blow off offers. They could be out of work. Now look at the writers--they're not as common as actors, but their work is so watered down or producers pick the most staid scripts and stories and conclusions, it can make the movie boring.
In other words, industry-wide, the actors, cinematography, costumes, and even direction are usually top notch, but the writing, plot, and scripts are usually crummy. You haven't noticed that?

Targa == you are spot on. I film infomercials and short form DRTV commercials. If you turn down a script in Hollywood and you are not George Clooney, you're toast. I use many C through Z stars in my productions and get to hear amazing stories about this. And good luck holding onto any morals. Raised in a Christian/Mormon home and don't want to use the F-word? Go back from where you came. Pretty girl from upstate NY doesn't want to show any skin? The Binghamton winter is a calling, sweetie. Your precious 7-year old daughter is cast for the small part in a thriller and you don't want her to see the blood and hear the vicious swearing? Get her into the Fond Du Lac Community Theatre and out of Hollywood, folks.
