[spoiler] End was not good (little bit)

[SPOILER ALERT]

I think, it was not good and un-natural that
Liza killed Addison in the end.
No sister kills her brother just like that, specially when they had strong bond.
It would/could be more good if Addison was killed by Police,
because he also killed lot of police officers in the movie,
so being encountered by police could be more fairer.

the end scene could be like:
when Addison asks Jay "Do you love her?"
He says, Yes.
There, some desparate expression should be shown on Addison's face,
he would stand up, and throw the gun in the feet of Jay,
just right there, police (as already arrived) would shot him from behind and killed him.
that would be much better scene.

Also.
It seemed,
"Addison only killed either bad-guys or police men."
it could be more nice, if film makers made this statement more true.
because they also showed that he has some sympathy, as he saved woman and her children.
But the only one scene when he killed a man to snatch his ice-bike.. ruins this idea .. for Addison/Eric.

reply

yes - the ending was not good. I don't buy that Jay could fall in love and risk everything for some chick he just met.

reply

Made perfect sense to me. He is an Olympic boxer who just got out of prison. He was in prison for throwing a fight or betting or something, not for being a bad person. So being a decent guy, in prison he was facing death every day, and knowing he can probably kick anyone's ass would give him the courage and confidence to stand up to anything. Including a woman he has feelings for who is being victimized by her psycho brother.

reply

I think it's believable that she would shoot him. She was obviously off her rocker and if she believed everything Jay was saying and that he loved her, her crazy loyalty could easily switch to him.

reply

Also, two police cars were just seconds away. I can't see the brother surrendering his gun, so he would have gotten killed by the cops if his sister hadn't shot him. That's why it was right for her to shoot her brother instead of waiting to see whether he would shoot the boxer.

Remember, the brother had killed three cops. Cops are not inclined to take someone like that alive.

reply

To be fair the movie lacks a proper ending. Granted it's not much of a surprise that the brother gets shot by his own sister, considering everything that went down at the dinner table. But all for what?... She's going to jail, Jay is most likely going back... not much a future for the new lovebirds now is it?

reply

I might be wrong, but Addison said that no one had any idea who she was, that she was just a distraction. For all we know she could make up some story about how he brought her along after the robbery and she had no idea aout any of it before hand. Also, again I could have misheard, but didn't Hannah say on the phone to the detective from Detroit something about a concussion? I don't think Jay actually killed the boxing guy like he thought, so he wouldn't be going to jail.

reply

It's a murder investigation, they would investigate her and make sure she is who she says she is. They will link the dead brother to the crime and get her for that. She may cooperate but depending on what they use, she is going to do some time.

reply

I don't think they will go to jail.
If caurse Jay hit the guy but out of self defense evdince will show and witnesses will tell he assaulted Jay with the bat. As for the girl, there is no eveidence whatsoever she was even at the casino heist. For all they know and what witnesses could tell she was with Jay the whole time they even told people they where husband and wive both addison and her sister havent been seen together till the verry end. They all know that her brother was a psychopath who couldn't let go of his sister so what everyone would think is that he actualy sticked around before running to the border to get to Jay and his family. In the end they all walk away witgh their share of the money.

reply

I disagree, they will connect her to her brother somehow and because she will lie about it they will put her at the earlier crime scene. Real police are not dumb Hollywood types. they will connect her. This is not a happy ending movie, It is merely pointing out how she is free of her brother [and by the way she was all in before the lover] so she is not the innocent one by a long way. Yes she is free of the brother but not the consequences of their actions.

On another note she and the lover only knew each other a few days so the intention of them living happily ever after is not even projected in my opinion. but to show her courage of breaking free. The lover was the vehicle to do that not the end all.

reply

even if the police might find out or if she tells the truth she won't do much time. I'm guessing 2 or 3 years as accomplice in the heist. As told and shown in the movie she didn't kill any of the officers or was around when her brother killed them. With good lawyers she might even walk away free if she can proove she was forced into the heist by the love she had for her borther.
either way this is how I feel it can end. It's an open ending and there are many ways things can turn out like. But the worst I think is that she could be found guilty of aiding in the casino heist and only that the other things.

reply

I truly understand your point of view but the crime is hardly a couple of years, first they will want the money. If she complies maybe then she will get the light sentence but also remember people were killed including cops. So some of that bad blood will spill over to her even if she is not directly responsible. I would guess 10 years and on time for good behavior to be about six years or so. And that is after she gives in on all fronts and comes clean. The act of shooting the brother to save the lover can be self defense of a human being so she may escape that charge but the heist and her being involved with that, then the killings he did, she will take the fall on her not turning him in earlier. Remember she gave the address. She is still indirectly responsible for deaths by his hands because she new what they did and only when it suited her means by killing him so he would not kill her lover will not be enough. She must take a least part of the fall for the innocent people she could have saved.

If she had turned him in before a lot of this happened then I guess we would not even be having this discussion.

On another note Jay left his coach for dead, even if he thought he was dead he did not try and get help and just left him, that is something they will nail him for.

So as i said it is not a happy ending type of thing unless one likes the ending you described which is ok for some, I do like your thoughts, it's just i saw it differently.

He called 911, he may not have said anything during the call but he did call and left the phone on so that it could be traced. I think they should've given him brusies from the bat beating... it would support his claims if/when he spoke to the cops.

reply

So the sister should be going to prison for a few years at the end, correct? Armed robbery of the casino, evading arrest, bad acting.

reply

For all we know. Exactly the point. Crap ending! Maybe Kate Mura puts in a good word. ( maybe her dad says sorry for the shot in the back.) But no. We get none of that. No resolution. Just a cheap fade to black. Maybe they were over budget for all the snow mobile effects. Any way the ending was rushed, Bad.

reply

Her brother saved her from the monster that was her father by shooting him. She saved herself from the monster that her brother became by shooting him before he did yet another terrible thing. Makes sense if you ask me.

reply

Yes, the ending is so freaking lame...

You just can't shoot your brother you knew for a lifetime for an ex-con boxer with romantic story which you met only yesterday, can't you?
Beside, the chemistry between the two was so awful to even make it believable.

reply

She knew her brother was a killer. She had seen him kill several times before (including their father, as revealed near the end).

She had 20+ years with her brother. She knew he was a criminal, a low life, a killer.

I don't think she came to the decision to leave him / kill him came just overnight. I think her new romance and chance of starting life over is what pushed her over the edge to kill her brother now. I think she imagined leaving him before, but never before had the opportunity or courage to do so.

BTW, a bit of trivia, in real life the actor who played the ex-con boxer married his first wife after dating her for only four weeks.

reply

She realized that her brother wasn't the protector/man she thought he was.
