it's laughable, because even cops aren't this stupid --

I almost want to save this movie as example of the dumbest, most implausibile movie ever (but there may be a couple others).

For example, in the first 10 minutes, when the cop addresses the guy who survived the major car wreck, walking toward the cop with his hand in his pocket, the cop deserved to die, because he was not following standard rules of engagement.

Then, the owner of the gym, who seemed to be over 200 pounds, wacked the guy with a baseball bat 3 times in the groin and 3 times in the head... but since the guy apparently had superhuman strength, he was able to kill him with one punch...

It all got even dumber after this, but this actually provided some short-term, laughable entertainment.

He didn't kill the gym owner, he uppercutted him which caused his head to hit the metal cabinet, knocking him out and giving him a concussion.

At the end they said the gym owner had a concussion. He was not killed.

Sadly, your response makes you look like an hypocrite. Since you don't remember everything perfectly. Just like the dumb moments in this movie.

People can be dumb, even the so called smartest people make dumb mistakes. Nobody is perfect.

t's not like cops and firefighters respond to accidents with weapons drawn and ready to blast someone.

It's been known to happen—with the cops anyway.

Wrong. It wasn't a criminal investigation, but rather a post-accident investigation. The cop saw the buck dead on the side of the road and understandably viewed the situation as a simple rural accident with people either wounded or dead in an upside down vehicle. In other words, it wasn't remotely a situation that necessitated walking toward the wreck with gun drawn.

It's assumed it wasn't a criminal pursuit because the the three heisters were far enough from the Casino and clearly not concerned about "fleeing the police."

Meanwhile, as noted by another poster, Jay was a professional boxer and the gym manager hit his head on a metal cabinet while falling. The climax shows that the manager suffered a concussion and wasn't slain, which meant Jay wouldn't have to return to prison, assuming he could prove that what he did was in self-defense.
