Mysoginistic script.

Insulting lines about wives, daughters on periods, an abuser berating his wife and daughter, throwing the female cops walkie, pushing her off her vehicle, the women skimpily dressed while the men are in overcoats, a supposedly TRAINED female officer that a
says she wouldn't know what to with a kidnapper....

There is something really disturbing about this uneven script

And yet Sissy Spacek's character is a rare realistic example of a strong female character when faced with a home intruder. And you say nothing about that, instead opting instead to call the movie misogynistic for making a statement about chauvinism. There were two different abusers who were shot and killed by Addison (one in the past, one during the movie) and it was telling when the daughter wasn't coming to her shot father's aide as he was getting carried away in the ambulance. What I got from it was that being a chauvinistic pig doesn't pay, which seems pro-woman to me.

And the women were skimpily dressed? I recall an unnecessary ass shot of Jay in the motel room... 

Thanks for balancing out the OP's criticisms. Viewers need to watch more closely before jumping to trendy accusations of misogyny, etc.

Nevertheless, I found the police chief’s verbal abuse of his daughter eye-rolling. I’m not saying mistreatment like this doesn’t occur, just that it could've been written & executed more convincingly.

A lot of that is 'realistic' rather than mysogynistic.

You've got it completely backwards. The script isn't misogynist. The male characters (the cops, mostly) are nothing more than sexist caricatures set up like bowling pins to be knocked down and punished. The scrips isn't misogynist. If anything is misandrist.

Well said.
