Shooting has started, Benny Boom director of SWAT:Firefight directs
The movie is currently being filmed: http://hiphopdx.com/news/id.36709/title.role-of-tupac-cast-for-all-eyez-on-me-biopic
It will be called ALL EYEZ ON ME and directed by Benny Boom who did the not so great Next Day Air and the straight to dvd sequel to SWAT that no one saw or even knew was made.
They are rushing the filming of the movie because they were told that if they don't start filming this year they will lose the rights to use Tupac's music, so they quickly hired a guy who never acted before called Demetrius Shipp to play Tupac.
And they got Jamal Woolard who played Biggie in the NOTORIOUS movie to reprise his role as Biggie in this one, probably because he didn't need much preperation as he's played him before and stuff.
So yeah I don't think it's gonna end up being all that great, John Singleton left the movie because they wanted to rush the movie even when he was attached which he said would make it look like the Aaliyah movie that everyone hated and that was with John on board, you can imagine what it's gonna be like with Benny Boom directing with no real credit to his name.
BUT I hope they will prove me wrong, but directing a movie about Tupac is a BIG deal.
One could argue that Jamal didn't have much acting experience when he did NOTORIOUS and that ended up fine BUT to that I say, Biggie was a pretty laid back dude where as Tupac is a far more complex character he was wild but still intelligent, he was a thug but still a leader borderline politician when he wanted to, he was both caring and at times arrogant and fierce to his enemies.
There are so many layers to his character that I don't think that a rookie can portray him accurately, a professional actor would struggle even...
